To Whom It May Concern:



My mother was admitted to your facility on Friday Feb. 10, 2012 after a knee replacement surgery.



In the early morning hours of February 14, 2012 around 1:30am-2am my mother’s bed failed and fell resulting in a jarring event that not only woke her up but also woke up her roommate Ms. Betty. My mother pushed her red button and the nurses came. My understanding is they performed some type of assessment, helped her to the potty chair and placed her back into bed. At the time who ever responded to her mentioned they thought that perhaps a trash can got stuck under the bed and came out causing the bed to fall.



I spoke to my mother around 8:30am and she mentioned the event to me, told me what the nurse had said ,that she was in pain, that she had already spoke to the morning nurse and that the doctor was to come and see her. Around 10am she called me again to thank me for the flowers we sent. At that time the doctor had not been in, she was having increased pain, and that she spoke to the nurse and was waiting for the doctor to come.



Later in the afternoon I received a call from my brother who informed me that the doctor had not been notified, that she was still in pain and that he was on the way over because no one had taken any steps to help her.



I meet my brother at your facility around 3PM and we were introduced to the director of nursing Mr. James Metcalf. My brother and Mr. Metcalf had a heated discussion and during their talk Mr. Metcalf stated several times that an assessment was done, that she was not injured, that she was in therapy at this time and he did not understand the level of our anger.



Mr. Metcalf repeated himself three or four times when I interrupted the talk and ask if placement had been verified in her leg? Mr. Metcalf looked at me but did not answer. I further explained if the device has been displaced then she would have an injury and if placement had not been verified then physical therapy could cause more harm.



Mr. Metcalf relayed that an X-ray had been ordered and that he was comfortable with the actions of his crew. He also stated that the event had not been reported at the morning shift change. My brother asked several times when was the xray ordered but no answer was provided.
