Dental Examination
During a dental exam, the dentist or hygienist will clean your teeth and check for cavities and gum disease. The dentist or hygienist will also evaluate your risk of developing other oral health problems; as well as check your face, neck, and mouth for abnormalities.

Teeth Cleaning
If you have good oral hygiene habits and a healthy mouth, Chesney Dentistry recommends professional teeth cleaning at least twice a year. Many dental insurance policies will cover two cleanings per year.
Dental Sealants
In addition to the meticulous cleaning, polishing, and examination of your teeth, we also take the time to help our patients develop proper oral hygiene habits at home. We will evaluate your hygiene techniques and suggest adjustments to your routine where needed. Our doctors and hygienists will also make recommendations for preventative measures such as dental sealants or nightguards to protect against bruxism and TMJ.

Fillings
At Chesney Dentistry we are an “Amalgam-Free” practice. Although there may not be a scientific consensus on the direct health effect of amalgam used in dentistry, we believe the environmental impact alone is significant enough and we choose to provide only composite fillings to our patients. It is not uncommon for patients to request the removal of their old amalgam fillings due to their dark silver appearance, as well as potential health concerns. Tooth colored, or composite fillings can provide an excellent cosmetic improvement.
Resin Composite
A composite filling is completed in one visit. The first step is to remove the decayed and/or discolored portion of the tooth. A bonding agent is then applied to the tooth. This will allow the composite resin to adhere to into the prepared tooth. The resin is then carved and polished, leaving you with a beautifully sculpted, natural-looking restoration. It is actually possible to provide numerous composite fillings in one visit, if needed.
Veneers
At Chesney Dentistry we offer some of the highest quality dental products. If you are unhappy with a stained or discolored tooth, or even missing teeth, we have the options and experience to help. A porcelain veneer shell may transform the shape and length of a tooth in almost no time. Our process of applying the veneers is simple and comfortable, allowing your smile to quickly look natural and complete.
Crowns
If you are in need of a crown, there are a few different options for crown types, depending on the condition of the tooth that needs a crown. They can include a full porcelain crown, a porcelain-fused-to-metal, or a gold crown. We will make a determination as to which of these options is the most appropriate for you. You can be confident that your new tooth will be virtually unnoticeable and will flawlessly complement the rest of your smile.
Bridges
A bridge, by definition, is a link or connection between two permanent structures. A dental bridge is very similar in that it attaches the restorative teeth (bridge) to the natural teeth on either side of the gap. This bridge acts as your new tooth (or teeth), filling the gap, and restoring your smile.

Restorative dentistry includes endodontics, periodontics and prosthodontics and any services that rehabilitate oral health to the functional and aesthetic requirements of the individual.

Root Canal Treatment
A root canal, or endodontics, is the process of removing the nerves from the roots of a tooth. A root canal is often necessary to save an infected tooth. If an infected tooth is left untreated for a long period of time, an abscess can form. An abscess will show up on an x-ray as a dark spot below the apex of the root. If a root canal is recommended, it is very important to address this problem as soon as possible.

Deep Cleaning
After your scaling or root planning, it is best to rinse your mouth 2-3 times per day with warm salt water – 1 teaspoon salt in 8 oz. of water. You should start home care immediately, although you should be extremely gentle with the treated areas.

Dentures
Dentures are replacements for missing teeth that can be taken out and put back into your mouth. While dentures take some getting used to and will never feel exactly the same as one’s natural teeth, today’s dentures are natural looking and more comfortable than ever.

Tooth Extractions
At Chesney Dentistry, we’ll discuss your treatment options with you, and it may be determined that a tooth extraction is needed for any number of reasons. Some teeth are extracted because they are severely decayed or broken to an extent that that they cannot be repaired. There may be advanced periodontal disease or possibly a cracked or abscessed tooth may require removal. Other teeth may need to be extracted because of poor alignment or positioning in the mouth in preparation for orthodontic treatment.
