Van's Fence

Van's put in my original fence and it's been there for 16 years, so I called to have them replace my fence in 2013. They measured and gave me an estimate. The timing didn't work out for me last year, so I called this spring and asked them to update the estimate. They did (20% bump in price) and I signed the paperwork and asked them to move ahead. They warned me it would be 6-8 weeks. They called the day before they wanted to come remove the old fence and said they would have to set new poles and let that set for 2-3 days. I said they would have to do that early in the week so I wouldn't be without the fence over the weekend, so we agreed on a Monday date 2 1/2 weeks for our discussion. Monday comes, no one shows up. I called my contact, "I didn't write that down, can we come out tomorrow?" Ok, now they are coming out on Tuesday, the install team shows up, "we don't have enough materials, the estimate was wrong." The estimate, that their sales person measured and provided was off by 33%. I called, they were very polite, but tried to say it was a phone estimate, no, that is not correct your sales person measured it. If it was off by a couple of feet, no big deal. It was the 33% mark up from what they estimated, on top of a call the day before they want to show up and then not showing up at the agreed upon time - I said, please have your people leave, I will find a more professional organization to work with.
