After completing her residency, she joined a private practice where she enjoyed working alongside three other talented optometrists focusing on primary care. Outside of work, she enjoys exploring new restaurants and breweries, spending time with friends and family, sewing and quilting, and taking care of her many houseplants. She couldn't be more excited to be joining the Moyes team and she looks forward to exploring a new city!

Ophthalmologists

Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a disease that damages the optic nerve of the eye. The optic nerve is the “cable” that takes what our eye sees and sends the signal to our brain. 3 million people are estimated to have glaucoma, BUT only half of them are aware they have the disease. Early in the disease there are no symptoms and for that reason glaucoma is often referred to as “the silent thief of sight”.
Ophthalmology
Magna Cum Laude from the University of Missouri at Columbia School of Medicine. There he garnered multiple scholarships and awards for academic achievement, including third-year acceptance into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the John A. Moran Eye Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Macular Degeneration
Understand if you have additional ocular conditions such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, corneal eye disease, etc. the ability of the eye to see 20/20 may be unachievable.

Cataracts
Anthony J. Verachtert, OD, is a residency-trained optometrist specializing in cataract and refractive surgery care. He graduated from Loyola University-Chicago with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. Following his undergraduate degree, he went on to complete a Doctorate of Optometry and an additional Bachelor of Science of Visual Science from the Illinois College of Optometry. He enhanced his training by completing an additional residency in corneal eye disease and refractive surgery at the Hunkeler Eye Center.
Cataract Surgery
Cataract surgery is a 10-15 minute outpatient surgery that is performed while you are awake. During that time the cataract is removed and replaced with an intraocular lens implant (IOL). Typically the surgery involves no stitches, no bleeding, no needles and no pain.
Eye Exam
We are excited for the opportunity to take care of you and your eye care needs. The information below will help your prepare for your evaluation and understand some of the details regarding the examination. Surgical and ocular disease examinations can require special testing that you may have not have experienced in a more regular yearly eye examination.

Internal Medicine
Dr. Michael C. Chappell is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids, tear drainage system, bones and contents of the orbit around the eye, and the face. He is a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, and received his undergraduate degree magna cum laude from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, before earning his medical degree, graduating with honors (Alpha Omega Alpha), from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. Dr. Chappell completed an internship in internal medicine from St. Mary’s Medical Center and an ophthalmology residency at California Pacific Medical Center both in San Francisco, California.

Diabetic Retinopathy
Please familiarize yourself with the different options that are available for your cataract surgery and your doctor will review these with you at your cataract evaluation. Your doctor may discover other health issues regarding your eyes during your cataract evaluation. Conditions like macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, fuch’s dystrophy, etc may make you a poor candidate for additional technology or certain lens implant options.

Ultrasound
A corneal evaluation will encompass everything that our comprehensive eye exam does plus several additional tests: a Pentacam corneal scanning, ultrasound pachymetry, endothelial cell count.

Reconstructive Surgery
Following his residency, Dr. Chappell completed a two-year oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery (oculoplastics) fellowship accredited by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS), at the University of Washington in Seattle. At the conclusion of his fellowship, he received the Marvin H. Quickert Thesis Award – a prestigious recognition given to the most outstanding research conducted in the United States by oculoplastics fellows for that year. Dr. Chappell enjoys the breadth of the field of oculoplastics and is continually fascinated by the form and function of the periocular and facial tissues.
