My dad had a massive stroke and was in a coma. Within 3 days of being at Landmark, my dad developed a stage three pressure ulcer on his bottom due to not turning him every two hours. Again, my dad was in a coma. My mom and I stayed at this facility and began turning him ourselves to help with the wound. We tried to get my dad transferred and we're unable to due to the pressure ulcer. I wouldn't send my worst enemy here to suffer the neglect and demise of one's health this place has caused. This place is a LONG-TERM ACUTR CARE HOSPITAL and they couldn't even do the basic care of turning and positioning of an incapacitated adult (average size). I am writing this to warn anyone who is considering taking their loved one here-DON'T. You'd be better off with in-home care through hospice, which is where you'll end up if you go here. The Social Worker was the biggest joke. Lies, lies, lies to keep you from leaving. Not faxing paperwork to keep you from transferring. Please, don't send a loved one here.
Daytime at Landmark Hospital seems fine, while administrators and family pay attention to the operations and the patient and may show up at his room at any time. Night time is a different story. Nurses are overloaded and tech aides are overworked; respiratory therapists spend their time discussing patients and catching up on documentation behind the front desk. My husband was left asleep all day, without being awakened to take his meals; I was told he was resting. At night the was tortured by insomnia and labeled as sundowner. By the way, his meals, when I claimed them, had disappeared consumed but not by him, while my husband's digestive system reacted with diarrhea or vomit because of the many drugs in an empty stomach. Even though he was in a 24/7 camera-monitored room, my husband died 3 hours after midnight while wearing a red-capped respiratory trach, on the day he was supposed to be discharged. My guess is that those who were supposed to monitor him, paid no attention to his respiratory distress and failed to send the respiratory therapist on duty to remove the red cap and give him oxygen, which lead to his weakened heart demise. This tragedy occurred on the same day he was supposed to be discharged for physical therapy follow-up and then home! :(
