Jacksonville Humane Society

This place is the worst! NOBODY answers this phone EVER! We have 2 dogs we need to give them, and this is the only drop off I know, but yet they don't answer the phone. We're about to move to an apartment, where no pets are allowed, but yet nobody answers the phone in order for us to be able to schedule a drop off...smh

My boyfriend and I have wanted a dog for the past few months but we didn't know if we should purchase a pure breed or adopt a rescue. We had always heard that shelter dogs were difficult and the facilities were rough. Although it was hard to see so many animals in need, when we first visited the humane society, we had no doubt in our mind that rescuing is the best choice. The staff were extremely helpful from finances, what we should expect, what type of dog personality would best fit us and if we were truly prepared to be owners. We finally purchased a sweet lab/beagle mix 2 days ago. The vet facilities at JHS have been treating her for heart worms and demodex. JHS gave us vouchers for her treatment of both conditions so that it would be no cost to us. It's most certainly a process getting her to trust us, but I think adopting a new pure breed puppy would have been more expensive and harder to train. I highly recommend JHS to all who are interested in adopting!
