The Foundation Against Companion-Animal Euthanasia (FACE) was formed in July, 1993 for the purpose of establishing programs and policies which would decrease the number of unwanted dogs and cats euthanized in the Indianapolis area each year. Because of the proven effectiveness of low-cost spay/neuter clinics in other cities, its initial efforts were focused on encouraging the Humane Society of Indianapolis or the City of Indianapolis to start such a clinic. Unsuccessful in these efforts, FACE established itself as a 501(c)3 organization and began raising funds to start its own low-cost, high-volume spay or neuter clinic in Indianapolis.In October 1997, FACE purchased a 4400 square foot building with a one-half acre lot at 1505 Massachusetts Avenue. Construction on the building began in March, 1998. The facility was completed in December, 1998 and on March 8, 1999, FACE opened the state of the art FACE Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic to the public.In 2011 FACE launched the Neighborhood Cat Program in conjunction with IndyFeral to target spay or neuter for neighborhood stray and feral cats. By the end of 2011, more than 800 neighborhood cats had been fixed.As we continued to work together, it became clear that our organizational approach to overpopulation and animal welfare in Indianapolis matched: our missions are the same. FACE and IndyFeral are like minded organizations committed to ending euthanasia through accessible and affordable spay neuter. It did not take long for us to see the opportunity that a merging of these two organizations would offer. Indy Feral merged with FACE in April 2012 and became a program of FACE.This merger has created seamless services for our city, and created a first of its kind clinic for spay/neuter and medical care of pet dogs/cats and neighborhood cats.Together we are leading the way to a no-kill Indianapolis.
