Dr. Azakie is the Chief of Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery at Peyton Manning Children's Hospital at St. Vincent, and serves as the Medical Director of the Congenital Heart program. His clinical focus is in neonatal, infant, pediatric, and adult congenital heart surgery. He obtained his undergraduate and MD degrees from McGill University, Montreal, Canada and trained in General Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. He then completed fellowships in Cardiothoracic Surgery and Pediatric Heart Surgery at the University of Toronto, the Hospital for Sick Children, and UCSF. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery, and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (C). He is former Professor and Chief of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at UCSF and served as Chief of the Division of Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery at the University of Minnesota. He also served as Co-Director of the Pediatric Heart Center at the Masonic Children's Hospital, leading the congenital heart program and pediatric heart transplant program. His research activities are concerned with the role of cardiac transcription in development and disease, as well as the development of pediatric cardiac medical devices. He has over 90 publications in the field and has given over 50 presentations at regional, national and international meetings. Dr. Azakie has been named a Super Doc and Regional top doctor by US News.
