It seems that there is a culture among the doctors and ER staff that involves treating patients like they're not really worth healthcare providers' time in terms of showing any sort of kindness, good bedside manner, or even keeping the patient rooms clean. My story is that I'd been having trouble breathing from asthma for awhile, yet the doctor kept asking if I took drugs (Do drug addicts even admit to doctors that they take illegal drugs?), and I kept having to repeat myself that I was clean.

Then there was my personal nurse--all I can say is that the African American nurse who cared for me refused to be professional. She even scolded me, the sick patient, for not being able to bring my bathroom sample back to my room. Finally after receiving two respiratory treatments that helped me to breathe and feel less dizzy and disoriented, I received my release papers...And guess what the doctor wrote? Patient's symptoms include: dizziness and 'giddiness' (with suspected asthma)." OK, so what in the world does "giddiness" even mean in terms of an official medical diagnosis, and why would asthma be "suspected" when that was precisely what I was treated for during my ER visit via respiratory treatments (I never was treated for symptoms of dizziness or "giddiness" yet it was written in the official statement as if these were the main issues)? More importantly, why is it so difficult to understand that a patient may seem out of it and anxious when they feel like they're literally on the verge of passing out?

Overall I just chalk it up to the fact that I most likely was racially profiled as someone on drugs. I mean, like how many drug addicts regularly go to the ER asking for asthma medication? Whatever, these people can continue to be rude to patients, racially profile patients, or even suspect that every black woman who comes in to get help is hooked on drugs. All I know is that I won't be one of those women EVER AGAIN!

The only reason I rated this h...

The only reason I rated this hell hole a 1 was because 0 wasn't an option. The entire emergency room staff including negligent nurses and ignorant security deserves to be fired. You can be there on the floor dying from pain and they will not lift a finger to help you or make sure you are in stable condition. I truly pray this death trap is shut down one day very soon, because nobody deserves to be treated the way I was treated.

ER wait times are extremely lo...

ER wait times are extremely long, even if you are in severe pain, you have to just lay on the floor and wait! Cause you don't have any other choice, if you don't have a family or car to go to another hospital and top of that you are in pain thinking you can die any moment.

ok, you get to see a doctor, may be in 6 hours, then in another 8 hours you will be admitted to the hospital. They take you upstairs, some of the nurses don't know what they are doing, dropping needles and pain medicine in the hallway on their way to your room. When you ask for water, it takes them literally 3 hours to bring it. When you call them, they never come, unless you STILL IN PAIN getting up off your bed to let someone at the nurse station know what you need. Instead of helping you to cope with pain, they are running around laughing and giggling So unprofessional.

Good luck to everybody! Be well!

As a previous patient and curr...

As a previous patient and current employee, most importantly an honest reviewer.. the local residents of this area are only to blame for the failure of PGHC.

As a county hospital, it services all basic needs dealing with law enforcement (person under the influence, psychiatric petitions, detainees needing to be cleared for custody) to accepting no insurance patients, who wouldn't be seen elsewhere.

First of all, because the hospital is older there are NOT as many beds as people assume. Other hospitals have 30 + beds not including their Fast Track- Minor Assessment clinic. Prince George's only has 21 beds, two of which are reserved for traumas (PGHC is the only trauma center in the southern MD area and is located off two major highways) and four beds are reserved for urgent life threatening conditions... sudden respiratory failure, active seizures, heart attacks, etc. Given the census of the area ... majority of the patients seen there are in SEVERE condition. Not seeing their primary care physicians regularly, or have no insurance to see a PCP. If there are more than two traumas, which there always are at any given time they get bed priority as would anyone who is truly suffering from a potential sudden death condition. The nurses Triage and assess any persons claiming to be ill, as all other hospitals do. Due to lack of space or level of priority, yes wait times are very long.

So much goes on in that ER that other hospitals don't put up with or that patients ever get to see. This place doesn't need to be shut down.. it needs help! A back up! Other hospitals turn so many patients away or transfer them to PGHC because it is outside of "their level of care." As a county hospital, PGHC can NOT turn anyone away... even those who abuse the system or hold up beds because of ingrown toenails.

Close Prince George's Hospital Center

The Maryland Department of Health has cited Prince George's Hospital several times for medical violations. The hospital has had serious financial crisis for several years. Personally, after waiting 4 hours in their e.r. with a Cervical Strain, a very painful and life-threatning ailment, I left and went to the Washington Hospital Center. There, I was treated promptly and efficiently.

Prince George's Hospital Center Should Be Closed!

The Maryland Department of Health has cited this hospital for numerous medical violations. And it has had financial and management difficulties for several years. Personally, I waited in their e.r. waiting room for over 4 hours. I left and went to the Washington Hospital which is the area's premier hospital. I was diagnosed as having a Cervical Strain (an excruciating headache with a painful stiff neck). Prince George's Hospital Center sent me a bill for waiting in their waiting room in pain.
