Ultrasound
Many different liposuction technologies are currently available to patients. These include ultrasonic liposuction which uses ultrasound energy to liquefy the fat prior to removal. This has proven to be effective in areas where the tissues are very dense, such as the male breast in patients with gynecomastia. Laser liposuction has also gained popularity in recent years. This technology involves the use of laser tipped probes (which induce a thermal lipolysis) to liquefy the fat prior to removal. Based on personal experience with these other technologies, Dr. Miles has found that superior results can be achieved with the MicroAireâ€™s PALÂ® LipoSculptorÂ which has become the mainstay of his liposuction practice. This sophisticated device is the only US-patented liposuction instrument using a reciprocating motion (rather than rotating) to facilitate the movement of the cannula within tissue. This innovation reduces the amount of manual force and physical effort required to perform lipoplasty, especially in areas with fibrous tissue. The result is a more comfortable experience for both the surgeon and the patient. Unlike ultrasonic and laser lipoplasty devices, the PALÂ® LipoSculptor does not use heat, so there are no concerns for the accidental burning that can occur with other systems. This device has proven its effectiveness and has been purchased by the largest hospitals in the Charlotte area for use in liposuction cases. Companies will continue to capitalize on the big business of liposuction by marketing their new technologies as the “latest and greatest,” but patients need to beware of these advertising hooks and do their homework. The choice of a quality surgeon is the primary determinant of a quality result. Dr. Miles is an experienced board certified plastic surgeon who uses surgical techniques and equipment that have provided consistently excellent results.
MRI
Silicone breast implants are filled with a soft, pliable silicone gel. The gel is designed to move and feel much like natural breast tissue. These implants are placed through the incision using a recently developed funnel system (Keller Funnel) that allows for a smaller incision and eliminates the requirement to physically touch the implant. This process is thought to reduce infection and capsular contracture rates. Breast asymmetries are corrected using silicone implants of different sizes. If the silicone implant ruptures or leaks, the gel is usually contained within the breast implant pocket. Because the implants feel so natural, an MRI study is sometimes recommended to assess their condition. There are currently three approved manufactures of breast implants in the United States. These companies are Mentor, Allergan, and Sientra.

General Surgery
His formal medical education began at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, where he earned his medical degree. He subsequently completed an internship and residency in General Surgery at Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas. During this time, he received exceptional training in pediatric surgery, trauma surgery and critical care medicine. He also received training in burn surgery at the renowned Parkland Memorial Hospital Burn Center. Dr. Miles is board certified by the American Board of Surgery.
Wound Care
The vast majority of patients go through the recovery and healing process without any complications after a tummy tuck. Dr. Miles follows patients very closely after any surgical procedure and he is always available to answer any questions or address any concerns. After surgery, patients will have surgical dressings over the incisions and the lower abdomen will be covered with an abdominal binder. This supportive garment is typically worn for several weeks. Patients will generally have surgical drains placed during the procedure, which are small tubes placed under the skin to drain any excess blood and fluid that may collect. The drains are painlessly removed in the office after 7-10 days. There are no sutures to remove after surgery. The wound care instructions and drain management is very simple. All patients are given specific written instructions for abdominoplasty recovery during their preoperative appointment. These instructions cover incision and drain care, medications, and how to monitor the surgical site.

Botox
Botox has redefined aging gracefully over the past decade. The cosmetic form of botulinum toxin is most commonly known by the brand name Botox, however there are other competitors as well such as Dysport. It is the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure available today.
Brow Lift
Upper eyelid surgery addresses heavy and drooping upper eyelids. Loose or sagging skin becomes more pronounced with age. The resulting skin folds can obscure the natural contour of the upper eyelids conveying a tired or sad look. In some cases, these folds may become so pronounced that they obscure the vision, especially with upward gaze. An upper blepharoplasty procedure can remove excess fat and skin from the area. An upper eyelid lift works well on its own or in conjunction with a brow lift procedure which elevates the eyebrows and further enhances the overall appearance.
Eyelid Surgery
Lower eyelid surgery corrects the excess fat and skin that accumulates beneath the eye that comes with age. Drooping under eye â€œbagsâ€ prematurely age the face and can make patients look sad or tired even when they are happy and energized. To correct this condition, the extra fat is directly removed through a small incision. Conservative skin resection can also be done. The result is a smoother and firmer under eye appearance.
Liposuction
In many cases a non-invasive liposuction procedure will be all that is necessary to remove excess breast tissue to flatten the chest and deliver the desired results. By targeting the excess fat deposits and tissue in the chest area, liposuction permanently removes the volume that creates the appearance of male breasts. The result of liposuction is a more masculine shape without the need for reduction surgery.

Face Lift
View Our Photo Gallery If you are bothered by the signs of aging in your face, a facelift may be right for you. Technically known as rhytidectomy, a facelift is a surgical procedure designed to improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck. Typical changes that can be improved with a facelift include sagging in the midface, deep creases along the nose extending to the corners of the mouth, loss of muscle tone in the lower face, jowling, and loose skin under the chin and jaw that can make even a person of normal weight appear to have a double chin. As a restorative surgery, a facelift does not change your fundamental appearance and cannot stop the aging process. A facelift can only be performed surgically. Non-surgical rejuvenation treatments cannot achieve the same results, but may help delay the time at which a facelift becomes appropriate and complement the results of surgery. A facelift is a highly individualized procedure and you should do it for yourself, not to fulfill someone elseâ€™s desires or to try to fit any sort of ideal image.
Neck Lift
Good candidates for Kybella are at or fairly close to their ideal body weight, and are bothered by submental fullness. In general, the treatment will produce better results if you donâ€™t have a lot of skin laxity in the area. (Although Kybella often produces some skin tightening, those with significant amounts of skin laxity will get better results from a neck lift surgical procedure.) Patients must be at least 18 years of age. Certain conditions, such as previous surgery on the neck, may affect the results of Kybella treatment, and other options may be preferable in these cases.
Blepharoplasty
Patients in our North Charlotte practice who only require fat removal to reduce under eye puffiness might be good candidates for a transconjunctival blepharoplasty. During this procedure a small incision is made on the interior of the lower eyelid rendering the scar invisible.
Abdominoplasty
A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is a procedure that is designed to safely remove excess fat and skin from the central and lower abdomen, while restoring weakened or separated muscles. This creates a desirable abdominal profile that is smoother, flatter, and firmer.
Breast Surgery
Recovery from revision breast surgery is generally similar to the initial surgery. Some patients actually experience a quicker recovery with less downtime after their second surgery. However, this varies depending on the complexity of the procedure undertaken.

Two different irregularities can cause ears to stick out prominently. Some otoplasty patients possess an overy-prominent conchal bowl –the bowl-shaped area of the ear that surrounds the ear canal.

Gynecomastia
Breasts are most commonly associated with the feminine form. However, nearly half of the male population suffers from a condition known as gynecomastia wherein the male chest appears to have characteristically feminine breasts. This condition is often disparaged in popular culture with terms like â€œman boobsâ€ . However gynecomastia, especially in its extreme, can cause significant discomfort in addition to embarrassment and loss of body confidence for those who are affected by the condition. Gynecomastia often impedes social interaction. Men with the condition often avoid sports, intimacy and other vital social experiences because of discomfort and lack of body confidence. Some who suffer from gynecomastia may even go as far as masking their chests with bulky clothing or complicated bindings.

Forehead Lift
The surgical technique recommended will depend on the position of the eyebrows, the amount of excess upper eyelid skin, and the height of the hairline. In some instances, an incision is made across the top of the scalp, beginning above the ears and hidden within the hair. Sometimes the incision is placed at the front of the hairline or, in some cases, toward the middle of the scalp. Through the forehead lift incision, parts of the muscles that cause wrinkling and frown lines can be modified or removed, excess skin can be removed, and the eyebrows can be lifted. One forehead lift technique uses an endoscope, a long, thin tube with a light on the end, attached to a video camera. The endoscope is inserted through several tiny incisions in the scalp and allows the plastic surgeon to see and work on the various internal structures of the forehead. The endoscopic technique requires minimal incisions, but in some instances, alternate methods may be preferable, or a combination of endoscopic and other techniques may be used.

We also offer a treatment called intense pulsed light (IPL), which uses light energy to help with removing lesions on the skin (such as â€œsun spotsâ€ ), improving skin tone, and other common concerns.
