It's no small wonder that the last positive review on their website is from 2010. I wouldn't be at all surprised if I were to find out that all the recent positive reviews here on yelp were friends and family of his, padding the score up to save face, because this guy wouldn't know 'good customer service' if it bit him in the you-know-what.
I purchased a livingsocial voucher for carpet cleaning and had a bad feeling from the very first phone-call where he immediately (without prompting, mind you) declared that everything, and I mean EVERY piece of furniture in EVERY area, had to be moved before he got there 'so he could get it all done, in and out.'
I tried to explain that since our living area isn't very big, I would need to roll the couch from one side of the room to the other so he could clean the whole room. Literally a 5 second process - this couch is on rollers, and at no point did I say 'you will have to move it', nor did I imply it - but he fixated on this point like a dog with a bone and Would Not Let It Go.
He spent several minutes insisting over and over that he wasn't going to move any furniture, while talking over me (in THE most insane display of listening comprehension failure I've ever witnessed) when I kept repeating that HE would not have to move the super-lightweight couches on their rollers. I finally just conceded defeat, and agreed that he would just clean around the couch when he did that area, since moving it 'violated the agreement' or ... something.
I mention this, because it's an argument he began again, one-sided as it was, when he arrived at my house to clean the carpets. He just could not fathom taking the 5 seconds to let me move a couch out of the way for him to clean beneath it. APPARENTLY the sight of that couch in an otherwise empty room prompted such a passionate vitriol in the guy that he couldn't NOT voice unsolicited complaints for the entire duration of his time spent cleaning said room.
Wow. Just .... WOW. Amazing. What a guy.
Which brings me to point of contention # 2.
At no point during our initial conversation where we scheduled his service, did he insist that the person who purchased the coupon absolutely had to be the person who was there at the house when he did the carpets. I share a house with my mother, who was home to meet the guy, but he immediately phoned me at work to rage over how I HAD to be there, that since her name wasn't on the voucher and mine was, this 'wasn't what he had agreed to' and etc etc.
He didn't shut up about this until I asked him what, exactly, he expected me to do about it, and pointed out how unreasonable it was to ask me to leave work and drive the 30+ minutes home to sit and babysit the guy, when there was ALREADY a perfectly competent adult there to supervise. 'Is this your house or hers?' he asked me. When I said the house belonged to both of us, he ACTUALLY told me 'no, its either hers or yours, the homeowner has to be here, you have to be here.'
... excuse you? She's there. You've already been paid. Your job is very simple. I have purchased carpet cleaning 4 separate other times on living social, through other companies, and NEVER ran into this issue before this shining star of customer service gold, from universal carpet cleaning, graced our doorstep.
I STILL don't know what his beef was over this particular issue, but the very fact that he called me up and basically lectured me like a child for not being there in person? If there was a way to give him LESS than a star, I would do so. He brow-beat my poor mother the whole time he was there, because 'those weren't the terms of our agreement.' Yeah, okay.
Eventually he did actually shut up and clean the carpets. Of course, immediately after doing so, he demanded a tip.
Here's a tip for YOU, yelp. Don't use this company. I sure wish I hadn't.

Had a small flooding problem from my courtyard ( like a half an inch of water over half my bedroom) and called Blackman Mooring. Asked for a quote 2 times and was put off (I was stupid) and the cost ended up being more than it would have cost for new carpet and a little sheetrock. To top it off the carpet does not look very good now and they ripped off 6 foot of baseboard and hauled it off..........which means I have to replace what could have been reused. DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING FROM BLACKMAN MOORING WITHOUT A QUOTE. Don't be stupid like me.......if they had given me a quote I would have paid the service charge. which they know; it is all a game to separate you from your money with no attempt to provide quality service at a fair price. DON"T USE THEM
