Dental Examination
A full-mouth series of x-rays and a comprehensive oral exam of your teeth, gums, mouth, and jaw will be performed, including a non-invasive oral cancer screening.
X-rays
Oral Cancer Screening
One of the most important parts of your routine visit to the dentist is the oral cancer screening. While optional, we recommend this element of the appointment so the dentist can thoroughly examine the soft tissue in your mouth, neck, and throat and diagnose any changes to your dental health (even if they are subtle). By detecting oral cancer early, you have a much higher chance of a successful outcome.

Teeth Cleaning
Dr. Ellison will typically recommend restorative dentistry be performed in two separate appointments. During the first visit, your natural teeth are prepped to receive the dental crown or bridge. This involves a thorough cleaning and exam by the dentist. Then, your crown will be custom-made out of porcelain to fit over your tooth perfectly and comfortably. Because the custom crowns can take a couple of weeks to make, a temporary crown is placed so you can go back to your daily activities without pain.
Fluoride Treatment
Dental Sealants
A successful way to prevent cavities is with dental sealants. Because molars are not entirely smooth and have many deep valleys and uneven surfaces, bacteria can easily weezle their way into the back of your child’s mouth, causing cavities and tooth decay. If this is ignored, the bacteria can wreak havoc on the tooth, causing infection and even nerve damage. Dental sealants provide a bonded barrier to protect against this bacteria in between regular dental visits. Talk with Dr. Ellison to find out if this may be beneficial.

Fillings
Cavities and small fractures can cause much larger issues if left untreated. In the past, metal restorations called amalgam fillings (or silver fillings) served a need but left many teeth discolored and strained from the wedging effect of the metal. Today, tooth-colored composite resins blend into the tooth structure and are chemically bonded to the tooth providing a strong, permanent restoration.

Veneers
A set of veneers can correct chips, stains, and even deeply discolored teeth. But they can also alter the length and size of teeth or help give the appearance of a straight tooth where there is not. While it may sound dramatic, it isn’t. Veneers provide a highly conservative approach to esthetic smile makeovers.
Crowns
Have you had silver fillings for over 20-30 years? Did you know the lifespan of these is only 10-15 years? Over the years, the tiny particles that are packed in the hole to fill it break down and leave holes where food and liquids harbor and create decay of the tooth underneath the filling. 90% of these fillings have decay underneath them when removed. We can remove the filling and decay and place nice white fillings that seal the hole and that protect your teeth from decay. An added benefit is that they are less likely to cause your tooth to fracture over time and therefore the tooth is less likely to need a crown in the future.
Bridges
There are many factors that go into how long crowns and bridges last. The best long-term plan for all dental work is to make sure that you are getting your teeth cleaned at least every 6 months and getting a check-up on a regular basis to prevent new decay around and underneath any dental work that would cause it to fail. How well you care for your teeth and dental work is the biggest single factor in determining their longevity. Occasionally, a crown or bridge can break and have to be replaced. However, I have patients that have had crowns since 1993, they are still like new, and they come in regularly to have their teeth cleaned and have not gotten any other cavities since then either.

Root Canal Treatment
The ConeBeam CT imaging system is a digital x-ray scanner that rotates once around your head while you stand or simply sit in a chair. The process is quick, simple, and completely painless. The scans produced are as precise as conventional CT (CAT) scans, but use far less radiation. The applications in dentistry are limitless. We use these scans to provide the best treatment in dental implants, root canals, diagnosis of dental and facial pain, etc.

Deep Cleaning
If you need a deep cleaning it is very important to get this done in the beginning. Keeping the gums clean and healthy prevents bone loss and helps to support you in keeping your teeth for the long term. Once this is done, we recommend other tools to make it easier for you to keep your teeth as healthy as possible so that you do not require additional deep cleanings, which is our goal for you.

Dentures
Whether partial or full, dentures can be removed for easy cleaning, disinfecting, or for times when you want extra comfort. The biggest benefit of dentures is the improvement in chewing and speaking for patients. Dr. Ellison can work with you to decide whether or not dentures are a suitable option for your unique dental situation.
