I was in Houston for a few days and thought I would have a better shot of getting my mechanical skeleton watch repaired here than in my home town. Brought it in on a Tuesday and explained my situation: flying out early Friday morning, so I would need it back by Thursday afternoon. The guy said sure, as long as it doesn't require parts (which I knew it wouldn't; the stem had pulled out and a gear had come loose... just needed to be reset). I asked for an estimate and he said no. That should have been my hint right there, but I went ahead and left it with him.

Thursday I called and asked about the status. He said it would be ready by 4:00 and that they closed at 6:00. I had a final chance to meet with some old friends that night, so time was somewhat tight, but that sounded like it would work.

I showed up at 3:45 to find the store locked and dark. No answer to knocking and the phone went to voicemail. Waited outside the store until 5:10, fuming the whole time. Guy finally showed up, and offered no apology or explanation of any kind, and talked extensively about how much he had going on later that evening. Yeah, me too, guy... friends I hadn't seen in 10 years and you just cost me a valuable hour of that time. The bill came to 1/3 the original cost of the watch... no parts, just labor... setting a gear. I did a similar repair a couple of years before elsewhere for $25.

Two days in, the quality of the repair seems fine. But customer service, attitude, and cost were just beyond the pale.

I took my antique plate clock in for repair over 2 years ago. Parts had to be ordered...they moved to a differennt location down the street etc (always an excuse), and "it's here, we just have to locate it". The matter is STILL unresolved despite monthly calls, and stopping in occ to check on the lack of progress. Don't take your valuable items to them!!!
