MRI
A custom knee replacement is similar to standard knee implants in that the same types of hardware are used. The difference with a custom knee replacement is that the patient has an MRI of the knee before undergoing surgery. The orthopedist uses specially-designed cutting guides to help remove a precise amount of bone at specific angles to accept the knee replacement implant.

I had an anterior hip replacement in Florida in 2009 and had an amazing experience and recovery. The problem…my new hip was metal on metal. In 2011 I began to experience growing discomfort with my new hip. When I saw Dr. Johnson he cautiously progressed through the steps to determine if my body was reacting to the metal on metal. Once it was determined that it was the probable cause, he discussed the pros and cons of another surgery with me. The resulting surgery made a huge difference and my recovery was quick and relatively pain free and I was back into my routines and activities in a couple of weeks. His staff and that of Holland Hospital were awesome. I appreciated the fact that I wasn’t rushed into a new surgery and had all of the facts before proceeding. I am a raving fan as are the others whom I have referred to the Bone and Joint Center!

Physical therapy is an important part of both your preparation for, and recovery from, surgery. Most of the exercise are home-based. The guidebook and Recovery Coach include a series of exercises to begin as soon as the decision for surgery is made to tone and strengthen the muscles needed for recovery.
Tennis Elbow
Better known as tennis elbow, lateral epicondylitis is an inflammatory condition caused by overuse of the elbow. It is not limited to just tennis enthusiasts. Other sports and even work-related repetitive motions may cause tennis elbow. The tendons of the forearm become irritated, resulting in pain and stiffness. Lateral epicondylitis can usually be treated with conservative interventions like cold, heat, rest, braces, and over-the-counter medications. Rare, severe cases may require surgery.

The ankle is a joint composed of the ends of the tibia and fibula as well as the small bones of the foot, collectively known as the tarsals.
