His areas of interest include diabetic dietary management, vision therapy, and myopia prevention. He is a certified orthokeratologist for Bausch & Lombâ€™s Vision Shaping Treatment. Â At Eye Care Hawaii, Dr. Kawamoto provides multiple high quality services including: comprehensive eye examinations, pediatric eye exams, glaucoma diagnosis and treatment, macular degeneration diagnosis and treatment, eye injuries â€“ adults and children, contact lens services and specialty fittings, and co-management of laser and cataract surgeries. Â Dr. Kawamoto received a Bachelor of Science degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, and earned an Optometry degree at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. After practicing for 13 years in Nevada and California, he is excited to reconnect with his hometown community in Hilo.Â In his spare time,Â Dr. Kawamoto enjoys spending time with his family and playing golf or tennis.
Laser Eye Surgery

Cataracts is a disease of the eye that results in the clouding of the lens of the eyeball. Cataracts prevent clear images from appearing on the eyeâ€™s retina; causing mild, moderate, even severe blurred vision.

During the evaluation of your eye health we will carefully examine your lens for signs of cataract formation. If a cataract is noticed and the clouding is causing visual disruption, your eye doctor will refer you to a trusted and respected surgeon for surgery, which is the only known cure for cataracts. Eye Exam
You may be asked to return to visit your eye doctor the following day for an eye exam. They will want to check your vision and be sure your eyes appear to be healing as they should. You will be given any additional instructions necessary about eye drops and/or artificial tears, and you can ask our eye doctor any questions you may have.
