Primary Care
On the regional and local level, Dr. Diehl is an Assistant Professor at Duke in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgeryâ€™s Division of Sports Medicine and Head Team Physician for Elon University. As part of the Duke Sports Medicine High School Out-reach Program, he works with Cedar Ridge HS in Hillsborough. At Duke, Dr. Diehl takes an active role in the mission to educate university and medical students, Orthopaedic Surgery residents and Orthopaedic and Primary Care Sports Medicine fellows. In the community Dr Diehl has given lectures to Pediatricians and Family Medicine providers about the Sports Trauma and Overuse Prevention (STOP) Campaign, and serves on the Peer Review Committee at both Duke Regional Hospital and the Davis Ambulatory Surgery Center.

Kyle Kirkland grew up in Durham, but she is a loyal Tarheelfan. She graduated with both a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from UNC-Chapel Hill. After UNC, she worked in urgent care and OBGYN. She then went on to receive her Master of Health Science from Duke Universityâ€™s physician assistant program. Kyle joined Dr. Selene Parekhâ€™s team at NC Orthopaedic clinic in 2015. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants. Kyle lives with her husband in Durham and she loves to spend time outside on the water at the lake and beach.

Melissa graduate cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science in 2003 from James Madison University. She volunteered as a first responder during her undergraduate career for the Harrisonburg Rescue squad and was accepted into her Physician Assistant program directly following the completion of her Bachelor's degree. Melissa received her Master's degree in Physician Assistant Medicine from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, IL in 2005. Over the course of 10 years she has worked in the fields of Gastroenterology, Internal Medicine, and Plastics & Reconstructive Surgery. Before joining Dr. Mithani, she worked for over 7 years at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago specializing in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. She is a member of the Triangle Area Physician Assistants and the American Academy of Physician Assistants. Melissa lives in Holly Springs with her husband and their two young boys and dog. She enjoys spending time with her family, cooking and being active in outdoor activities.

Jamey Messersmith graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Exercise Science in 1999 from Furman University in Greenville, SC. After working as an assistant in the cardiology and endoscopy departments at Bloomington Hospital in Bloomington, IN, he completed his Master of Health Sciences at Duke University's nationally-ranked physician assistant program. He joined the staff of NC Orthopaedic Clinic and Dr. Scott Kelley's care team upon becoming certified as a physician assistant in 2003. He specializes in adult reconstructive surgery doing total hip and total knee replacements with Dr. Kelley. He is licensed by the North Carolina Medical Board and is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants, the Triangle Area Physician Assistants and Physician Assistants in Orthopedic Surgery. He sees patients in the clinic, makes rounds at the hospital, and assists with all the surgeries. Mr. Messersmith lives in Durham with his wife and two young children. He enjoys sports, coaching his childrenâ€™s teams, and spending time with family.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
His primary focus is treating various upper extremity pathology. He specializes arthritic conditions of the upper extremity including shoulder and other upper extremity joiunt replacements. He also performs many minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures including shoulder, elbow and wrist arthroscopy. He enjoys treating other conditions of the upper extremity including labrum and tendon disorders such as rotator cuff repairs and shoulder tendon transfers, along with other tendon transfers of the upper extremity. He has extensive training with trauma of the upper extremity and is a large clinical focus of his practice. He also treats nerve compression disorders such as carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel syndrome, nerve injuries, trigger fingers. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Duke University. He has published articles in nationally recognized publications on many conditions of the upper extremity and continues to actively conduct clinical research and contribute to national textbooks.

Ultrasound
In most cases, Dr. Boyd will perform the injections under direct ultrasound guidance to ensure accurate placement of the platelet concentrate in the damaged area. The entire treatment, from blood draw to solution preparation, to injection, takes 45 minutes.

On active duty with the Air Force, Dr. Diehl completed an internship in General Surgery and was stationed in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where he practiced primary care as a Flight Surgeon for several years and deployed frequently throughout the world. He then completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at UNC-Chapel Hill, followed by a year of sub-specialty fellowship training in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at the University of Chicago.

Dr. Rhett Hallows was born and raised in Utah. He received his Bachelor of Science from Southern Utah University in 1998. He then went on to attend the University of Utah School of Medicine where he obtained his MD in 2003. Following medical school, he stayed on at the University of Utah where he completed his orthopedic residency in 2008. He then moved across the country to finish his training at Duke University, completing a fellowship in Adult Reconstruction while training under Drs. Michael Bolognesi, Scott Kelly, David Attarian, and Samuel Wellman. After completing fellowship, he moved back to Utah where he has been in private practice with Intermountain Healthcare, a nationally recognized healthcare system. He was actively involved in building and developing a Joint Center of Excellence with Intermountain Healthcare while in Salt Lake City. His interests include complex hip and knee replacement/reconstruction and revision surgery, hip and knee revision arthroplasty (for failed total knee and hip replacements), and computer navigated joint replacement. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Shauna, and together they have two beautiful daughters, Alex and Kiara.

Dr. Douglas Schreyack is a native of Camillus, New York, a suburb of Syracuse. He received a bachelor of arts degree from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1987 where he majored in physics with a minor in premedical studies. He received his doctorate in podiatric medicine and a bachelor of sciences, summa cum laude, from the Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago, Illinois, in 1991. Dr. Schreyack completed his podiatric training during his surgical residency at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Germantown, Tennessee.

Dr. Schreyack is an associate staff member and enjoys surgical privileges at both Duke University Hospital and Durham Regional Hospital. He performs most of his surgical procedures on an outpatient basis at Duke's Ambulatory Surgical Center and the Davis Ambulatory Surgical Center. He enjoys all aspects of podiatric medicine, but concentrates primarily on forefoot reconstruction of bunion, lesser metatarsal and hammertoe deformities.

In the office, NCOC performs Lipogems to help stimulate healing in chronically painful areas. This procedure utilizes a patientâ€™s own harvested abdominal adipose (fat) tissue that is then spun down into stem cells and injected back into the patient to stimulate healing. This procedure is done as a same-day, sterile, in-office environment without need for sedation. Lipogems is similar to PRP injections, but different in that PRP uses plasma (blood products) while Lipogems uses a patientâ€™s own stem cells. Dr. Parekh has used this technique to successfully treat problems ranging from knee arthritis, to plantar fasciitis to osteoarthritis, delaying or eliminating the need for surgery.
