Dr Chiotti serves as the head podiatrist for the Concentra Occupational Medical Centers for the greater Portland area. He also teaches podiatric residents as the preceptor for the Good Samaritan Podiatric Residency Clinic and with inpatient care at Legacy Portland Hospitals. The system is a small machine with an applicator that looks like an ultrasound. It is administered once a week for a series of 3 to 4 treatments. Each treatment takes approximately 5 minutes depending on the size and number of areas treated.

Since bunions are a bone deformity, they will not heal by themselves. Treatments include adding protective padding to shoes, removing calluses, wearing custom fitted shoes, orthotic devices to slowly correct alignment, exercises, and splints.
Ingrown Toenails
Ingrown toenails are a common condition where the corner of a toenail grows into the soft flesh surrounding the toe (usually the big toe). Ingrown toenails can be very uncomfortable, painful, and can easily lead to an infection in the toe.

Those with hammertoe often have corns or calluses on the middle or tips of their toes. It is usually difficult to find properly fitted shoes due to deformity.
Calluses
While most plantar warts are not a major health concern, it is advised you see a doctor to have the warts examined and removed. Some symptoms include small, rough lesions on the base of the foot, calluses in one spot, and tenderness when walking or standing for long periods of time.

Fungal infections in the toe or fingernails can appear as thickened, discolored, or disfigured. While it may seem like the condition is just an aesthetic concern, fungal infections can lead to worsened symptoms and pain. Diabetes, a weakened immune system, and the normal aging process are all causes associated with fungal infections. It is more likely for senior citizens and adults to develop a fungal infection as opposed to children.

Achilles Tendonitis
When you experience chronic pain, your body no longer recognizes that there is an injury to that area. Therefore, it shuts down the healing process and you feel no relief. Bunions Problems
Bunions are painful bone deformities in the big toe. When the toe is misaligned, the joint in the toe grows larger, creating a protuberance over time. These lumps can cause constant pain from rubbing against shoes, which in turn, irritates the joint resulting in a large bump.

As Residency Director for close to 20 years, he developed the program to national prominence known for its excellence in residency training. Hammertoe is a condition where the second, third, or fourth toe, is bent at the middle joint, overlapping the toe(s) next to it. It is caused by improperly fitting shoes and problems with the toe muscles.

Plantar fasciitis is caused from inflammation of the connective tissue that stretches from the base of the toes to where it attaches to the heel bone. Symptoms include stiffness and tightness in the back of the leg and bunion joint, along with an uneven gait. Heel pain is often the first sign of plantar fasciitis.

Dr Chiotti earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physiological Sciences from the University of California, Los Angeles. He then completed four years of podiatry school earning a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco, CA. He completed a two year podiatric surgical residency program through Legacy Portland Hospitals and Kaiser Permanente Northwest. He is board certified in Foot Surgery from the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery.
