My husband & I are attorneys and former REMI tenants. REMI appears to routinely engage in unfair/unlawful practices, particularly when it comes to trust accounting of security deposits. They took a blanket, general "cleaning fee" out of our security deposit illegally even though the house was meticulously cleaned and maintained, both by us and by professionals. I won't get into the legal nuts & bolts regarding how landlords cannot legally deduct "routine cleaning costs" or charges for "normal wear and tear," but suffice to say that REMI staffers are not law-abiding, honest people. Such a shame.

One example (of many): We paid for professional carpet cleaning and dropped the check off at REMI's office. REMI forwarded payment to the cleaning company. A month later, they hired another cleaning company whose receipt charged for "vacuuming carpets in living room." Problem is, we don't have carpets in the living room. And even if we did, that would be double-charging for carpet cleaning. The itemized list also showed charges for "cleaning pantry"... except our kitchen didn't have one.

Best of all? They initially failed to include an accounting of the cleaning charges with the return of our security deposit as they should have done under law. We had to contact them after the 30-day deposit return deadline and request the cleaning receipt ourselves.

That is just a small example of the level of dishonesty you will get from these folks. I can't even imagine what they try to pull on folks who they deem less educated or resourced.

As tenants who are educated professionals with excellent credit who always paid our rent on time, took care of the house, had no kids, and went above and beyond to leave the place better than we found it, you would think we were the kind of tenants REMI hoped to attract and keep. We will be telling all our professional contacts and friends (many of whom would be excellent tenants) to stay far away.

Finally, for what it's worth, when we moved in there were human feces in the master bathroom toilet. It stunk up the entire house. It was gross. There were also children's magnets and a family photo from the previous tenants stuck underneath the refrigerator (indicating it hadn't been cleaned). We cleaned up all of this without complaint upon move-in. It just adds insult to injury that REMI is taking these cleaning fees from each tenant upon move-out while clearly *not* cleaning. Also, we didn't leave human feces in the toilet when we moved out, so we left the house VASTLY better than we found it upon our move-in. You're welcome, REMI.

I can only speak upon the two individuals in the Havelock office. Our experience with them was negative. Rude and apathetic. Was told I would be contacted back in 24 hours about a property after inquiring with them numerous times. They never called us back, even after repeated attempts. We went with a different rental company and are much happier.

Before you do anything with this company make sure you ask to see the previous renters pictures. They do not keep track of all maintenance transactions, wait months to fix things, send people who end up making the job worse, and when it's time for you to leave they will send you a bill stating you owe them money for all of the things they "fixed" using your deposit. Owners seem to appreciate them but don't realize that every time something is wrong and you call REMI, they state that the owner is the problem with them being late for maintenance.

Do not rent from them. We needed a short term rental while we waited for our house to be built. We lived there for just 4 months. The house we moved into had bugs on the floor, it was noted in the walkthrough (which was a month late-- and ONLY because we ASKED for it) and the girl who did the walk through told us we didnt' have to shampoo it when we left because it clearly wasn't clean. There were also items left in the fridge, etc upon move in. When we went to move out, they charged us almost 500.00 for a (unnecessary) flea treatment, carpet cleaning, and cleaning fee. I personally cleaned the house for 2 days making sure to do EVERYTHING on their checklist. We never missed a rent payment and took excellent care of the home. They also failed to install carbon monoxide detectors & replace the seal on our toilet until weeks later. Do not rent from these people, nor let them manage your house (if you are a homeowner). I would give them no stars if I could.

The ladies at Real Estate Management have worked for me, and managing two properties since 2004. I do appreciate all they do. They are meticulous in performing the move in/out inspections, along with the semi annual inspections. I have trusted them for over 11 years and am very satisfied with their performance. They communicate with me only when necessary and do not overburden me with superfluous information. Thanks ladies - for doing such a great job!

These bad reviews honestly don't surprise me. I am currently trying to find a rental and I have dealt with 3 employees so far. They have all treated me like I was a burden. They have no desire to find tenants for their rentals.

The level of unprofessionalism & deceptiveness by far is he worse I've seen in ten years of renting places. I didn't even get further than putting in and being approved for an application. They unfortunately didn't show it to the owners and the house got rented. Then they refused to refund my money based on their error & because I chose to go with a different company became very rude and nasty. Stay far far far away from this company. They have several properties that sit unmaintained in our neighborhood. Now I'm not shocked in the least.

Desperate to Move

Stay away from "Remi". I have had a roof leak for a year now. Never get phone calls back when I'm promised I will. Things that need to be fixed or replaced go undone. When I moved in (August 2013) the AC was not the greatest. None of the fans worked either. I had to buy stand up fans so my kids were not sweating while they slept. Heat is gas which is incredibly expensive and even more so when areas are not insulated. They told me they were willing to help me get into a different place since the homeowner was so unreasonable (that is where they put all the blame) but they haven't and the one place I was interested in they rented out from under me. They know I am struggling to make rent payments because of the issues but they don't seem to care much.

HORRIBLE! We rented a duplex from REMI and when we moved out we were charged for damages that we did not do. That was after they were suppose to fix those damages the first week after we moved in and never did so over the full year that we rented from them. If you do rent from them, I STRONGLY encourage you to take multiple pictures of every discrepancy that you see on the very first day that you are there. You will need them when it comes time to move out and they try to place the blame on you. Best of luck!

Horrible horrible!!! I am a homeowner and set up with Shannon to take care of our property while we went with orders to a new duty station ...not only did we have renters destroy our house and evicted they couldn't even collect the money that was owed to us...and when we decided to come back to the east coast to prepare the house to sell the house was disgusting and things were left in the house still from previous renters ....their lack of professionalism and pictures that were emailed to us and blurry we had no idea when I called to confront the situation all they could say was sorry ...that sorry made me me waste more time and money on their short comings and don't get me started on emails they hardly respond to you and you hardly ever speak to Shannon I was very very disappointed in their way of work

People who stated "not to rent from REMI" (one which I personally had experience with- you know who you are) may have not had a good experience with REMI because they either didn't pay there rent on time or lived like pigs. Actually, pigs are cleaner. I have had my home managed by REMI for 7 years and find them to be a good management company. They look out for the tenants as well as the owners interest.

Wow... Can't imagine what the ...

Wow... Can't imagine what the folks below are talking about?! I suspect they are working for - or writing on behalf of- some competing agency. My husband and I have had 2 properties with REMI for nearly a decade now and their service is un-impeachable. Not only have they kept our units rented with very little pause, but the calibre of folks they have gotten us has been wonderful. No major damages or problems at ALL. We have properties in Raleigh and Cary and can NOT say the same thing about the management companies here (we wish we could franchise REMI). In addition to their remarkable 'rented' performance, they provide on-going communications, video and photo updates on our properties and clean, precise billings. If something needs doing, they are on top if it, and if you're looking for "Southern Hospitality", take some time to get to know these folks. I do NOT work for REMI. I live in Cary. I have nothing to gain from supporting them and am only writing this because they don't deserve the tripe written below. And I would hate to see anyone looking for a management company lose out on these gems due to that mean-spirited blather.

We have been working with REMI for several years now. Great staff, very responsive, very concerned about details and getting things right. No complaints at all. We are looking forward to continue working with them.

do not rent from them if I could give no stars I would

We rented our first house through them and I wish we never did the company claimed they had spoke with us about a fowarding address and never did the took our whole sec deposit and still asking for more. They told me that the writing on the wall upstairs which we painted over costed $3000 never in my life had I had to pay that much the need to go out of business quick so they can stop scewing over military families

DO NOT RENT FROM HERE! Completely unprofessional and rude! They will not make an appointment to come and fix anything, rather show up unannounced. They don't respect military or their families, and will not work with you if you are in a bind... Steer clear of this place and rent elsewhere!

Evicted with one weeks notice

Rude, incompetent, utterly hopeless.

18 months of hell.

We where given one week to vacate a rental when remi had known the owner was returning for SIX MONTHS. With a 5 month old son in the home.

The women who work here are litterally liars and must be mentally challenged. They took money from the owner without maintaining the home. They Lied about my occupation, telling the owner I was a marine from Minnesota. ( Im not either of these things) lied about sending me my eviction notice, lied to the owner telling her I had indeed been notified to leave my rental, Refused to maintain the property, even lied about the utilities in the house we had moved into. Let me move into a house with no gas (heat/ hot water) and subsequently refused to do anything about it.

In short. Do NOT get involved with these crooks. They will constantly violate your renters rights with a smile.

Listen to all these reviews! Do not rent here, they don't appreciate your money or the military. We could never get anything fixed and no one ever returned our phone calls. Not even the manager or owner of the company returned our phone calls. Whenever I would call it sounded like the people that worked there didn't want to be there and that I was bothering them! Your hard earned money needs to go to a company that appreciates its customers.

Do NOT rent from these people....

Do NOT rent from these people. They lied to us about the house they wanted us to rent, trying to get us to sign a lease without first having seen the property. The people who work in the office do not communicate with each other at all, they wanted us to pay more for the deposit than what they put in the lease agreement, and they never came to look at the mildew problem in the bathroom. While living there, we received foreclosure papers for the owner. We took them to the leasing office for them to forward, but then they couldn't get the owners on the phone to find out whether they were bringing the mortgage current, or if the foreclosure was moving forward. We moved as soon as we could after that.

Most unprofessional business I have ever encountered.

I strongly discourage anybody from renting a home or letting them rent out your home. They are very unprofessional and have no idea what customer service is. They are terrible at making appointments, keeping appointments and returning phone calls.
