Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Dr. Nogueira has a broad interest in evaluating and treating patients with neurological problems, including migraines, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, seizures, and various neuromuscular disorders, such as neuropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, myasthenia gravis, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He is an expert in the performance and interpretation of nerve conduction and EMG testing due to his specialized fellowship training, extra board certification, and extensive clinical experience.

Psychiatry
Dr Silverstein graduated from Brandeis University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience and Psychology. He then attended medical school at Robert Wood Johnson (now Rutgers) Medical School in New Jersey. After graduating in 2004, he completed his internal medicine internship and neurology residency training at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. His training then continued at New York University's Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, where he completed his Epilepsy/EEG fellowship in 2009. Upon completion of his fellowship, he joined Hackensack Neurology Group. He is licensed to practice medicine in the state of New Jersey, and is board certified in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Ultrasound
Carotid ultrasound and transcranial doppler are two tests used to determine the amount of blood flow which is reaching the brain. These studies evaluate for blockage usually from cholesterol which can cause stroke. This study is performed with an ultrasound machine, much like the one used for prenatal ultrasounds. No special preparation is necessary.

Sciatica
EMG (also known as electromyography) is a test used to evaluate for neurologic conditions such as neuropathy, myasthenia gravis, myopathy and sciatica. This test uses small electrical impulses to stimulate individual nerves. By measuring the nerve’s response we can determine what and where the problem is. The second part of the test involves using a thin needle to check several muscles. This allows us to determine if there is an underlying muscle problem. By using these two techniques we can accurately diagnose nerve and muscle conditions. No special preparation is necessary for the test.
