Ophthalmologists

Glaucoma
Dr. Evans is a certified therapeutic optometrist who provides medical exams and management for patients, along with routine vision care. As well, she is certified in glaucoma management and has a special interest in contact lens fitting, including colored contact lenses and astigmatism correcting contact lenses.
Ophthalmology
He is a member in good standing with the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Texas Ophthalmological Association, and the Texas Medical Association. He has served in the past as Chief of Surgery at Georgetown Hospital, as well as Chairman of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. Dr. Dietlein returned to Georgetown and the hill country in 1994, where he continues to live with his wife and three children.
Macular Degeneration
Dr. Dietlein is a board certified ophthalmologist who provides comprehensive eye care for patients with cataracts, diabetes, glaucoma, macular degeneration and other disease processes of the eye and has done so since 1994. With a special interest in cataract surgery, Dr. Dietlein has performed thousands of cataract surgeries over his 15 years in Georgetown. He is glad to offer newer technology intraocular lenses to his patients, including the ReStor multifocal, the Alcon astigmatism correcting implant, and the Acrysof aspheric lens implant.
Cataracts
We have a YAG laser available in our office. The Yag laser is used principally to make an opening in the capsule behind an implanted intraocular lens that was placed at the time of cataract surgery. The capsule on which the implant is placed is clear at the time of surgery but may later become cloudy like a frosted windowpane. This laser can make an opening with a painless procedure known as a capsulotomy.
Cataract Surgery
Since 1994, Dr. Dietlein has been providing comprehensive eye care in Georgetown. Together with Dr. Evans, we continue to offer a wide spectrum of eye care services in our office, including medical and surgical management of eye diseases, routine vision exams, contact lens fitting and eyeglass dispensing. Dr. Dietlein performs small incision “no stitch” cataract surgery for his cataract patients. We also offer a variety of the newer technology intraocular lenses for our cataract patients to consider, including the ReStor multifocal, the Alcon astigmatism correcting implant and the Acrysof aspheric lens implant.

Dr. Dietlein attended the University of Texas at Austin (1977-1981), where he earned his B.A. degree in Biology, with highest honors. He then attended the University of Texas Medial Branch (UTMB) in Galveston (1981-1985), where he received his Medical Degree, with honors. Dr. Dietlein next completed an internship in internal medicine at UTMB (1985-1986). From there, Dr. Dietlein moved to New Orleans, where he completed a research fellowship and his residency program in ophthalmology (1987-1991), from Tulane University.

Diabetic Retinopathy
We have an Argon Laser available in our office. This laser is used to treat certain forms of retinal disorders, which include diabetic retinopathy, retinal holes, and retinal tears. The laser may also be used to treat various types of glaucoma to help lower the eye pressure when needed.
