Johan Nordenstam, MD, PhD, is a colorectal surgeon in the division of gastrointestinal surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine in the department of surgery.Dr. Nordenstam received his medical degree from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. He completed his residency in colon and rectal surgery at the University of Minnesota, where he remained to complete an accredited fellowship in colon and rectal surgery and minimally invasive colorectal surgery. Between his residency and fellowships, Dr. Nordenstam was a research fellow at the University of Minnesota in the division of colon and rectal surgery.Dr. Norednstam's clinical interest include treating colorectal diseases such as colon cancer, rectal cancer and anorectal physiology. He has expertise in ulcerative colitis, Chron's disease, colorectal cancer, hemorrhoids, colonoscopy, rectal prolapse and fecal incontinence.Dr. Nordenstam has earned multiple national awards and accolades over the years, including the Roy A. Taylor Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award from the University of North Carolina at Asheville in 2021 and an Award of Appreciation from the University of Illinois at Chicago College in 2017. He is a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
