        Herndon-Barstow Elementary School enrolls more than 440 students in kindergarten through grade six. It also conducts preschool classes for 4-year-olds from low-income families and 3-year-olds with disabilities. Its academic curriculum includes several subjects, such as math, art, social studies, science and physical education. The school offers a peer mediation program in which students assist in resolving conflicts that arise between their classmates. Herndon-Barstow Elementary School runs English language development and special and gifted education programs. It provides several after-school activities, such as language arts instruction, computer classes, gardening and tutoring. In addition, the school offers a range of parental involvement opportunities, including back-to-school nights, open houses, carnivals, breakfast with Santa, awards ceremonies and science fairs.
