Dr. Askren graduated Cum Laude from the Georgia Institute of Technology where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He received his Master of Science degree there, as well, studying laser applications in ophthalmology. After attending medical school at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Askren completed his General Surgery Internship at Emory University. Following six years of surgical training at The University of California San Francisco Fresno – Central San Joaquin Valley Medical Education Program, he completed a residency in plastic surgery at the University of Alabama in Birmingham with Dr. Luis Vasconez and others – all pioneers of modern plastic surgery. His educational emphasis was on aesthetic face, breast and body surgery.

Pregnancy

Chemotherapy
Most often, breast reconstruction is begun immediately, but treatment protocols may require reconstruction in a delayed setting. The option of delaying reconstruction allows one to complete their medical treatment (chemotherapy or radiation therapy) and allows one to optimize their overall health to reduce their risk for complications. Immediate reconstruction offers the advantage of improved aesthetic outcomes, fewer surgical procedures and psychologic benefits.
Radiation Therapy

General Surgery
Dr. Zuniga’s interest in plastic surgery dates back to his training in general surgery when he witnessed the ravages of trauma on the human body. He was naturally drawn to the specialty which focused on mending the lives of patients by restoring form and function. He believes plastic surgeons are afforded a unique opportunity to not only heal the body but to hearten the mind and spirit.
Reconstructive Surgery
In 2006, the FDA approved a new, improved generation of silicone gel-filled breast implants. Silicone gel implants were previously only available to patients undergoing reconstructive surgery. Now, all women over the age of 22 considering breast enhancement surgery have the option to choose either silicone or saline-filled breast implants. Silicone gel implants are made of a cohesive, gelatin-like substance that holds together uniformly while still retaining the feel of natural breast tissue. Silicone implants must be placed through larger incisions than saline implants because they are pre-filled.

Plastic Surgeons

Botox
Botox is a protein derived from a bacterium and is administered with a tiny needle directly into the muscle that requires treatment. It typically lasts three or four months, but with repeated use sometimes last longer.
Brow Lift
For some patients, surgery such as a facelift, brow lift or eye lift may be the best approach. Minimally invasive rejuvenation treatments, such as soft tissue fillers, cannot achieve the same results, but may help delay the time when consideration of a facelift becomes appropriate. It is important to remember that dermal fillers are temporary treatments for facial aging and that ongoing treatments will be needed for long-term results.
Liposuction
Aging and weight fluctuation may cause excess fat and/or sagging skin to occur in the upper arms of both men and women. Liposuction will help some patients by removing fat and achieving mild skin tightening. Patients with severely drooping skin will need to have that skin surgically removed.
Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is one of the most common cosmetic procedures we perform. The goal is to enlarge and improve the overall shape of the breasts. Patients have a choice of saline or silicone implants.
Breast Reduction
Breast Reduction can be performed on one or both sides. It can be considered a reconstructive procedure and may be covered by health insurance when performed to relieve medical symptoms.
Breast Lift
The breast lift is a highly individualized procedure. Your surgeon will discuss your needs to determine which approach is best for you. The presence of scars on the breast may be considered a disadvantage of the procedure, but this trade-off is necessary to achieve an improved breast shape. The length of the scar relating to the lift is determined by the severity of sagging (amount of skin to be removed and how much the nipple must be raised). Scar length may range from one that simply goes around the areola, one that has an areolar scar plus a vertical scar from the lower areola to the breast crease ("lollipop” scar), or one that has a lollipop scar plus a varied length horizontal scar near the breast crease (the “anchor” scar).
Rhinoplasty
A rhinoplasty is a nose reshaping procedure performed for those whose nose is out of proportion with other facial features or otherwise does not compliment the face. In most cases, the shape of the nose is determined by genetics, but in some instances it is due to trauma.
Breast Reconstruction
The goal of breast reconstruction is to restore one or both breasts to near normal shape, appearance, symmetry and size following a mastectomy, lumpectomy or surgery for correction of a congenital deformity. Breast reconstruction is a process, with the final result aimed at lessening the physical and emotional impact of cancer treatment or a congenital deformity.

Thigh Lift
The procedure can take anywhere from three to five hours. It is usually done under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Scars are generally placed in area that can be hidden by clothing. In some circumstances, the inner thigh lift may require a vertical incision along the inner thigh for full correction.
Face Lift
Necklifts involve reshaping the SMAS layer in the neck, often with fat removal. Excess skin is removed around the ear as in a face-lift.
Neck Lift
Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is a procedure to correct excess eyelid skin and to treat prominent fat pads. Excess skin weighing down the upper lids, and fat pads in the lower lids, can produce a tired look. This procedure can be performed on both upper and lower lids.
Abdominoplasty
An abdominoplasty removes excess skin and fat and tightens laxity typically seen after child bearing. An incision is generally made in the natural skin crease above the pubic bone and may be designed so that it is hidden by swimwear. A second small incision is cut around the navel. The abdominal flap is elevated, the abdominal wall is tightened by placing sutures that lace up the supporting tissue, and the excess skin and fat are removed. Though the scars are permanent, they usually fade within the first year of surgery.
Breast Surgery
Dr. Askren's plastic surgery practice began by repairing difficult facial deformities and reconstructive procedures on the face, breast and body. This exposure provided an excellent foundation for understanding wound healing and tissue handling for aesthetic procedures. His primary focus now is that of aesthetic face and breast surgery. Holding safety as the number one priority, he takes a careful approach to the treatment and management of his patients.
Otoplasty
Correction of prominent ears is achieved with a procedure called otoplasty. Other ear problems, such as torn earlobes, partial absence because of trauma, birth defects or cancer may also be treated.
Body Contouring
A body contouring technique that removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen. The goal of the procedure is to improve abdominal contour and increase patient confidence.
Gynecomastia
Age: 29. Height: 6 ft. 2 in. Weight: 185 lbs. Procedure: Bilateral Mastectomies for Gynecomastia. Removed 60 grams of tissue from right and 66 grams from left side.
