Frenchglen Hotel

This hotel has 8 small bedrooms with small regular beds (expected in an historic hotel) and no private bathrooms. There are two bathrooms for everyone; 16 people sharing one bathroom for men and one for women. That is not charming. The food is well prepared but you have no choices and there are no considerations for anyone who has food allergies, intolerances or medically needed diets such as for diabetics, low fat, etc. The mosquitoes are also a big problem. We killed 10 the first time we went in our room and several every other time we entered..

A great place to stay if you like things charming, not fancy, comfortable, and w/ good food. The hosts are congenial and well-informed about points of interest in the area right down to the location of the nearest sage grouse lek. We had a wonderful time staying there. The food definitely makes it a 4 star getaway. Roast Cornish hen, roast beef, pork chops: all w/ delicious sides. The breakfasts are very substantial. I bet we gained 5 lbs in spite of hiking all over the refuge. And the operators have been so kind to mail us forgotten articles. Very nice indeed.
