        The report I then got from them after they looked at my car was disturbing and totally inaccurate. Their diagnosis included telling me that 1) The engine could not be repaired. 2) That there was no compression in the bad cylinder. 3) That the piston had internal damage and was hitting the bottom of the spark plug, 4) there was engine block damages and 5) there was internal engine damages. 6) I was told I needed to get another engine.



        Everything they told me was a lie. They charged me $317.74 for this "diagnosis".



        After I got my car back, I had the helicoil put in for less than $400, and the car ran perfectly. NONE of what Pep Boys told me turned out to be true.

        My car broke down on a highway... called Pep Boys, ordered new alternator, parts dept said it will be $222... got there, they tested the system... verdict: alternator (duh!!!)... price to fix: $412 (including the same alternator for $254 + labor $100 + tax and fees) ... while on the job, pulley turned out to be bad... they got it for $80, sold it to me for $150 plus installation, guess how much... $100... total for the job??? almost $700... rip off... but I had no choice, not my city, not my yard and I needed to be on the move... oh well... next day I got a call from them if I made it safely to my destination... like they care... bull... the only good thing was the fact they were open on a holiday and were able to fix my car in about 6hrs... That is why I prefer to go to the dealer... at least they have labor rate at fixed time, not rate... my guess if I had to change the belt it would be another $100 for the labor...
