- Born in New York City and raised in Washington, DC, Dr. Peter M. Tan is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who received his American Dental Society of Anesthesiology (ADSA) Fellowship in General Anesthesia in 1990, eventually becoming President of the Maryland Dental Society of Anesthesiology in 1996. He is a past president of ADSA and was appointed as one of the national faculty for the American Dental Associationās āRecognition and Management of Complications during Minimal and Moderate Sedationā course. He is a partner/owner of Mid-Maryland Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, P.A. Dr. Tan is a past president of the Maryland Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, having served as the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) Anesthesia Clinical Interest Group (CIG) chair, the Abstracts Session chair, the ADSA Liaison to the Committee on Anesthesia, and now serves as part of the faculty for the AAOMS Hands-On Simulated Anesthesia Emergencies course. Colonel Tan retired after 36 years of Active and Reserve Duty in the Army in 2018. He served as one of the five Army Reserve Regional Commanders in the United States Army Dental Corps, commanding the Pacific and Europe Regional dental commands. He was the ranking reservist in the Army Dental Corps at the Office of the Surgeon General and the Pentagon. Dr. Tan has been awarded the āAā Proficiency Designator in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery by the Surgeon General and is a member of the Order of Military Medical Merit. Dr. Tan served as an assistant professor at the University of Maryland, a visiting lecturer at Howard University, a past president and trustee of the Frederick County Dental Society, the founding president of the Francis Scott Key Study Club in Maryland, a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society. He also served as a former section chief, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Provided by Doctor.comI personally have a fairly high pain tolerance but I was rather nervous going into my surgery. I was completely sedated before he started the procedure and the next thing I remember I am sitting it my girlfriends car telling me she got my prescriptions. Later that day I received a call from Dr. Tan asking me how I felt. I felt incredible given I had just had surgery. Any amount of dull pain I did experience over the course of the next week was remedied with the medicine Dr. Tan prescribed to me. He followed up with me a week later and set me on my way! I am very pleased with how easy it was to work with Dr. Tan and will go to him for any further dental work I need.

My tooth removal and implantation were done without pain and I was made to feel as calm as could be expected while staying awake. Dr. Tan focused on all details necessary for a successful procedure.

He was honest and extremely knowledgable. The staff is always professional, friendly and patient. The entire experience was the best I could have expected.
