Jacqueline is a Maryland native. She completed her undergraduate studies with a B.A. in Psychology from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. She is driven by her passion for clinical work. Prior to the start of her professional career, she completed an internship working with children with autism in the neuropsychology program at Children’s National in Washington, DC. She received her Masters of Medical Science from Saint Francis University while completing her certificate of Physician Assistant studies at Anne Arundel Community College. She graduated with honors in the top 5% of her PA class. She joined Horizon in 2020 with over 10 years of experience in several subspecialties of medicine. She started her career at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital working with Johns Hopkins Orthopaedics. She worked alongside a fellowship trained Foot and Ankle Orthopaedic surgeon to treat patient in the office setting and spent over 6 years first assisting in the operating room. She also worked per diem in the urgent care center of the Emergency Department during that time. She followed her orthopaedic experience with two and a half years in Cardiology at MedStar Union Memorial hospital. During this time she worked closely with physicians of several subspecialties, including heart failure, structural heart disease, electrophysiology, and sports cardiology. She performed exercise and pharmacologic cardiovascular stress testing. In addition, she consulted patients both in the critical care unit of the hospital as well as carried an outpatient patient base. Jacqueline enjoys the balance between the office and hospital settings to allow continuity of care for her patients. She values communication with her patients to encourage preventative medicine practices.

Female Infertility
The most common cause of female infertility is a blockage of the fallopian tube through which eggs pass from the ovary to the uterus. Occasionally, these tubes become plugged or narrowed, often due to the accumulation of mucus or debris, which can prevent successful pregnancy. Horizon Vascular Specialists can diagnose and treat a blockage in the fallopian tubes with a non-invasive procedure called fallopian tube recanalization (FTR). This procedure begins with a standard hysterosalpingogram to evaluate the condition of the fallopian tubes. During this procedure, a flexible tube, or catheter, is placed into the uterus to clear the blockage. The procedure is done with sedation and patients will be able to return home shortly afterwards.
Pelvic Pain
It is estimated that one-third of all women will experience chronic pelvic pain in their lifetime. The causes of chronic pelvic pain are varied, but recent advancements show the pain may be due to hard to detect varicose veins in the pelvis, a condition known as Pelvic Congestion Syndrome. It is one of commonly missed and potentially treatable causes of chronic abdominal or pelvic pain. Many women with pelvic congestion syndrome spend years trying to get an answer to why they have this chronic pelvic pain.

Ultrasound
Chemical ablation, or ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy, involves the injection of a chemical mixture into the vein, which is then observed in an ultrasound. This allows for the treatment of veins below the surface. No anesthesia is required.
MRI
A biopsy is the removal of tissue in order to examine it for disease. The tissue samples can be taken from any part of the body. Biopsies are performed in several different ways. Some biopsies involve removing a small amount of tissue with a needle while others involve surgically removing an entire lump, or nodule, that is suspicious. Biopsies are conducted using CT, ultrasound, MRI or fluoroscopy to precisely locate and evaluate masses or suspicious areas throughout much of the body. Radiologists use tiny instruments to take small tissue samples that are evaluated for cancer.
Radiology
For some patients with abdominal aortic disease and other vascular disease, minimally invasive endovascular techniques may be used. Using advanced radiology and imaging systems, a catheter is inserted through a small incision in your groin or your arm. Next, a tube-shaped, fabric-covered stent is compressed and guided through the catheter up to the damaged portion of the aorta or other blood vessel needing treatment. Once the graft is in place, it is expanded to fit tightly and seal against the wall of the aorta, which creates a new path through which blood can flow. The catheter is removed and the incision site is closed.

Computed Tomography
A bone biopsy is a procedure in which a small sample of bone is taken from the body and looked at under a microscope for cancer, infection, or other bone disorders. A bone biopsy is often done on bone areas that show problems on an X-ray. A Computed tomography (CT scan) may be used to guide the biopsy needle.
Chemotherapy
Vascular access procedures are often needed when patients need medication infusion such as antibiotics, chemotherapy, dialysis, hyperalimentation for feeding and frequent blood tests. This vascular access provides fast, easy access to the venous system for treatment, very low infection rates and elimination of repeat needle sticks. This procedure involves the insertion of a flexible and sterile thin plastic tube, or catheter, into a blood vessel to provide an effective method of drawing blood or delivering medications and nutrients into a patient's bloodstream over a period of weeks, months or even years. The catheter may be tunneled partially or implanted completely beneath the skin to decrease the risk of infection.
Interventional Radiology
In addition to vascular care, Horizon Vascular Specialists now also offers women’s health services. These services range from diagnosis and consultation to treatment of pelvic disorders and infertility. Through interventional radiology, Horizon uses the most advanced technology to perform image-guided procedures that are minimally invasive. These treatments minimize risk, require little to no incisions, and have less pain with decreased recovery time compared to conventional surgery. Most treatments are done with local or moderate "twilight" sedation, not general anesthesia.

General Surgery
Upon joining Horizon Vascular Specialists, Dr. Silva introduced advanced laparoscopic skills in general surgery. He continued to bring new innovative procedures to the practice, including the removal of leg vein blood clots. The practice continues to excel at vascular innovation and advanced treatment of vascular disease. Today, Dr. Silva and the Horizon physicians do the vast majority of their work using minimally invasive techniques.

Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) occurs when fat and cholesterol builds up inside the walls of your arteries (atherosclerosis). This eventually narrows the opening of the arteries and leads to inadequate blood flow. Depending on where the blockage occurs and how severe it is, symptoms may include chest pain, heart attack, stroke, leg pain or cramps, foot ulcers, gangrene, renal artery disease, hypertension, heart failure, or abnormal kidney function.
Vascular Surgery
Jennifer received her Master of Science degree as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from University of Maryland in 2013. She joined Horizon Vascular Specialists in 2019 with over 10 years of cardiovascular nursing experience. Jennifer started her nursing career as a graduate nurse in the Surgical Intensive Care step-down unit at Medstar Washington Hospital Center in 2009. She continued with critical care nurse training while traveling in Honolulu. She returned to DC and worked as a vascular surgery nurse practitioner at Washington Hospital Center before taking her next assignment in Washington State. In Washington, Jennifer worked in cardiology at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma. She made her way back home to Maryland in 2019, where she started with Horizon Vascular Specialists.
Hysterectomy
Of the 600,000 hysterectomies performed annually within the United States, one third are due to symptomatic fibroids. Now there is a proven, non-surgical alternative to hysterectomy for the treatment of symptomatic uterine fibroids, uterine fibroid embolization (UFE). UFE is a safe method and, like other minimally invasive procedures, has significant advantages over conventional surgery.

Eczema
Over 30 million people are undiagnosed with varicose veins. Varicose veins are veins that have become enlarged and appear twisted and bulging and are often raised above the skin. When veins become varicose, this means the valves that prevent blood from flowing backwards, or vein reflux, have become weak or damaged. This creates the pooling of blood in the legs, which can sometimes even be painful. Severe occurrences can lead to leg swelling, venous eczema, skin thickening, and ulceration.
