Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
We are very excited to have Averi join our team here at Yost Dental Group. She is a Tennessee native having grown up in Dickson County. She is a Registered Dental Assistant and has worked in general dental offices as well as in oral surgery. Averi is a newlywed, having recently gotten married, and she and her husband have two German shepherd dogs named Jaxx and Jayce. She is an international traveler having recently returned from a trip to Italy. She enjoys being outdoors spending time fishing, camping, and taking her dogs on adventures.
Tooth Extractions
For more complex Surgical Procedures including Impacted Wisdom Tooth Extraction, Implant Surgical Procedures, etc; you will receive an ice wrap which should be worn for the rest of the day and until you go to bed on the day of surgery only (10 minutes on and 5 minutes off). Individual instructions for various surgical treatments will have some unique directions which will be supplied to you at the time of your treatment.
Bone Grafting
The patient should have a healthy jawbone. It should be dense enough to support a titanium screw. In case of low jawbone density, a bone grafting surgery will be performed, during which, healthy bone tissues from a donor area in the body will be transplanted to the recessed area.

Orthodontics
Dr. Yost is proud to be recognized as a Certified Provider of Invisalign® brand clear aligners. Invisalign® has been offering its clear aligners for the purpose of orthodontics since 2000. They are constantly innovating and improving their product. The advantage of Invisalign® is that it allows for practically invisible orthodontics. Invisalign® does away with wires and brackets that can cause self-consciousness and anxiety for some people who are correcting positioning problems with their teeth.
Invisalign Orthodontics
Basically you take them off for eating and for oral care (brushing, flossing) then put them back in. These trays, in conjunction with buttons that are attached to the teeth, put a light, but steady pressure on the teeth that causes them to move, a tiny bit, with each tray. Therapy involves changes from tray to tray. Patients typically receive several trays and are appointed for visits at specified intervals to determine tracking and progress. Invisalign is also compatible with accelerated orthodontics, which if utilized, can dramatically reduce the movement phase of your treatment, and can reduce pain and sensitivity that often can accompany orthodontic treatment.
Braces
Although not all the electric brushes are the same, in conclusion of all these studies it is fair to say that in general electric brushes are more effective in controlling the plaque than manual brushes. Theoretically you could do a very good brushing with a regular hand brush but the movements of an electric brush makes the task easier and more efficient. Also, some electric brushes (Sonicare) have sonic vibration that is difficult to mimic with a hand brush! Other electric brushes like Oral-B and Rotadent have small heads that help you reach hard to reach areas of your mouth. This aspect is more important when you are talking about somebody with orthodontic braces or a history of gum disease.
