In an effort to socialize my little girls, I would drop them off at Playtime Hourly an hour at a time. On the second trip, everthing seemed to be fine when I picked them up. Until we got home... I was reaching over my daughter to help her wash her hands and noticed a red spot on the top of her head. I freaked out and thought it was blood. She later explained that the teacher had poked her on head using a maker because a boy pushed had her out of line. Instead of communicating to her effectively, the caregiver found it quicker to poke them on the head to get their attention. I found it unacceptable and went in the next day to speak to the manager and caregiver. Since the caregiver conveniently had amnesia about the event, I asked to review the tapes. The manager claims she didn't know how to work the computer and would have the owner call me when the it was ready. Surprise! Surprise! I never got a call from the owner nor did the manager return my calls!! I highly doubt this is the first time that this has happened. Make sure you check the top of your child's head when you pick up them up. If they take short cuts in simple communication efforts; I can't imagine what other short cuts they find acceptable or undetectable when caring for your kids...

On June 26th of 2009 this customer dropped her children off for care. There was a painting activity that day led by Miss Monica. The next day, the customer returned with her child to show Miss Monica (the child's caregiver) that there was a red dot on the child's head. Miss Monica (a PLAYtime caregiver for 5+ years) advised the customer that it was paint from the activity the day before. Miss Monica washed the paint out of the child's hair while the customer was at the center. Miss Monica and the assistant director appologized for the concern that was caused by leaving paint in the child's hair. The mother left but did not seem satisfied. Our caregivers go through extensive child development & positive guidance training. Each PLAYtime caregiver is well aware that "poking" a child on the head (with anything) to get their attention would be an improper form of guidance and would also be immediate grounds for termination of their employment with PLAYtime. We apologize that this customer was not satisfied with the outcome of this situation and pledge to clean our children better after messy activities.
