“I’ve always had a good relationship with my patients,” Dr. Collini says. “That’s probably the strongest part of my practice. I believe the physician-patient relationship is the most important part of our job.” Dr. Collini knew he was going to be a doctor by the time he was in fourth grade—although he admits, his mom was a big influence. “Quite honestly, she planted the seed,” he says, “but the more I looked into it, the more I liked the idea.” Given his early career decision, he had a long time to think about the kind of doctor he wanted to be. At the top of his list was dedicating himself to an area of medicine that would allow him to “fix” problems. “During medical school, I did a rotation in general surgery and knew I was going to be a surgeon in some field,” he says. “Then I did a rotation in urology, and knew that’s what I wanted to do.” For more than two decades, Dr. Collini has been helping individuals in North Texas enjoy healthier lives. “When someone comes in with a painful kidney stone obstruction, I can surgically remove the stone and the problem is gone. For a man who has significant difficulty emptying his bladder, prostate surgery not only makes it possible for him to empty his bladder, it significantly improves his daily life—and that’s really rewarding.” The trust and bond established during these experiences have led many of Dr. Collini’s patients to confide other health concerns beyond urologic issues. “I’m honored to help guide them to the right place to take care of those non-urologic health issues,” he says.
