Dental Examination
Your initial oral examination includes a visual examination, charting, periodontal probing, diagnosis and treatment recommendations. We will also take x-rays, which allow us to correctly diagnose your current dental condition.
X-rays
The severity of a toothache can range from chronic and mild to sharp and excruciating. It can be a dull ache or intense. The pain may be aggravated by chewing or by thermal foods and liquids which are cold or hot. A thorough oral examination, proper tooth testing and evaluation, along with appropriate dental x-rays, can help determine the cause. What we want to know is whether the toothache is really coming from a tooth or somewhere else.

Teeth Cleaning
Water picks use powerful tiny bursts of water to blast away food particles and other debris in hard-to-reach areas of your mouth. Dentists use professional-grade water picks when preparing a tooth for restoration, or in general cleaning and exams.
Fluoride Treatment
All patients should have a standard cleaning at least twice a year. A child should have a prophy and fluoride treatment twice a year. An adult cleaning might include an adult prophy (basic cleaning), and/or a periodontal scaling and root planing.
Dental Sealants

Fillings
We use both tooth-colored resin fillings that are cured to match your teeth and amalgam (silver-colored) fillings that are used for posterior teeth. Amalgam fillings are made of more durable material, which makes them better for posterior teeth. If an amalgam filling shows in your smile, we can replace it with a tooth-colored resin filling.
Resin Composite
There are alternatives to conventional substances used in amalgams, such as gold and metal alloys. These include materials made from porcelain and composite resins, which are colored to match natural tooth enamel. Unfortunately, few materials can match the strength and durability of conventional dental amalgam and may need more frequent replacement.
Veneers
In just two or three dental visits, a veneer can reverse years of stains caused by foods, caffeine and tobacco use.
Crowns
A tooth must usually be reduced in size to accommodate a crown. A cast is made of the existing tooth and an impression is made. The impression is sent to a special lab, which manufactures a custom-designed crown. In some cases, a temporary crown is applied until the permanent crown is ready. Permanent crowns are cemented in place.
Bridges
If you are missing one or more teeth and there is at least one serviceable tooth on both sides of the space where the tooth is missing, one acceptable option for replacement, used for many years in dentistry, is the fixed bridge.
Dental Bonding
Some commercially available "whitening toothpastes" can be somewhat effective at removing stains and making teeth a few shades brighter. However, many of these products have abrasive substances that can actually wear away your tooth's enamel.Whitening agents actually change the color of your teeth, but only are effective on certain types of stains. For example, bleaching agents have a difficult time removing brownish or grayish stains. These products also are not as effective on pitted or badly discolored teeth, or on restorations such as crowns, bridges, bonding and tooth-colored fillings (porcelain veneers or dental bonding may be more appropriate in this case).

But remember one thing: Never use a toothpick as a substitute for flossing. Toothpicks can tear delicate gum tissue and may damage existing dental restorations.
