Dr. Sims brought to Lane County her expertise in the diagnosis, medical management and surgical treatment of glaucoma. Dr. Sims performs advanced glaucoma procedures including multiple modalities of laser treatments and surgeries. Some of these procedures include laser trabeculoplasty, micropulse cyclophotocoagulation, microincisional glaucoma procedures, trabeculectomy and shunt implantation.
Ophthalmology
A native of south Florida, Dr. Hoffman completed his undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology at Haverford College in Pennsylvania in 1983. He received his medical degree at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1987. He completed his internship at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. After an additional year practicing medicine in Colorado, he returned to Tulane University for his residency training in ophthalmology. Following residency, he completed a year of highly specialized training in Refractive Surgery and Cornea and External Diseases in Louisville, Kentucky. He became certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1994 and recertified in 2004 and 2014. He has extensive training and experience in corneal transplantation and excimer laser refractive surgery.
Macular Degeneration
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of poor vision in people over age 60. When the macula is damaged, central vision is interfered with, so that when you look at an object straight on, part of it may seem distorted, blotted out, or shrouded in a dark haze.
Laser Eye Surgery

Cataracts
A cataract occurs when the protein in your natural lens starts clumping together, creating opacity or cloudiness in the lens, which may prevent a clear image from forming on the retina. Surgical removal of the lens may be necessary if visual loss becomes significant. Cataracts may be congenital (present at birth) or caused by trauma, disease or age.

Eye Exam
