Once Upon A Child

My second time there , but first time trying to sell ..I only buy some toys there - sometimes you can find something that my kids can use .. Like Lakeshore stuff for example - educational things ..I would never bring items to sell again though - it's not worth it .. I mean judging by what was on the shelves I had no doubts they will take most of my stuff ( I brought 3 huge bags ) - clothes on the racks are worn out , sometimes stained , stretched ! Really ?!?! And they took only gap snow boots barely worn( toddler) , children's place jacket worn once and a Thomas game - I got $8 dollars .. The rest were some jeans , pants, hats, pajamas, sleepers ( worn once to take a cute picture and that's it !) in excellent condition compared to what is on the racks and it was rejected ? Weird ... It seems like they bringing their own stuff / employees friends' , relatives etc and sell it but if you try to offer them stuff not worse sometimes even better than what they have in store they reject ...two stars just because I sometimes get the toys from there otherwise it would be 1 ..

Last Tuesday, I brought in 4 small bins of high end, mint condition clothing (Hanna Andersson, Mini Boden, Corky &Co., Lands End, Gymboree). This was my very first time consigning with Once Upon a Child, but certainly NOT my first time consigning clothes! After waiting more than an hour and a half for them to go through my items, they only took 8 items and gave me back all of the high end clothing, saying it was dated! After receiving $11.25 for the 8 items that they did take, I lug my bins back to the car. A few days later, I take these same items to another, more upscale consignment shop and they took everything! Here's the kicker when I go to take the items to another consignment shop, I realize that I left on of my bins by the door at Once Upon a Child. I go back to Once Upon a Child on Friday of the same week to inquire about the missing bin of "dated clothes" and no one knows where it went even though the same exact people were working on my previous visit. After further looking, one of the employees brings back a lidless bin identical to the one I brought in. When asked where my items were, the woman says, she didn't know, but perhaps customers stole the items. Seems shady, huh? I then told the woman if I had left something at any other store (which I have done) , it would have been put aside until I returned. She proceeded to offer my a $5.00 in store coupon for my troubles! Not only will I never return to this store to consign my clothes, but I will NEVER purchase another thing from them again!

Very disappointed. Staff was very friendly, but I went with pristine items and was told I would receive between 30 - 40% of what the item was worth. Instead I received less than 20%. Be prepared to receive about $1.00 per item.
