I recently had a major problem with my car, and blew a head gasket. I had the car towed to this shop because it was close to my house. The owner, Matt was very honest and confirmed that the car was a total loss, as it would cost more to fix it than it was worth. I was very sad, as this was my only means of transportation. To my surprise, Matt offered to sell me one of his used cars for a great price! I cannot believe that this man, who was a stranger, cared enough about us and our situation to even offer this. We ended up buying the little used Mazda and am SO GRATEFUL to Matt. This is a very nice and honest mechanic, I will recommend him to everyone I know. It is rare to meet someone in the automotive field that will put his customers first, but Matt did. We are so grateful to him and Golden Gate Auto Repair. THANK YOU MATT!!!!!

I was headed home from SF when my check engine light came on and my car started shaking violently. Of course it was 5:00pm on a Saturday. Not being familiar with the area I checked the yelp reviews on the mechanics nearby (my insurance would only tow me 11 miles) and decided to called Golden Gate Auto Repair. Even though they were technically closed, the owner answered the phone and told me to have it towed over - he would even wait. I towed my car over and waited for a phone call Monday morning. I seriously expected the worst, I could SEE my engine shaking like crazy. Well it turned out to be a broken valve, he fixed it that day and I was back on the road. I was impressed with how quickly he fixed the problem, his no nonsense attitude and extremely reasonable price. He also didn't give me the "this is what else is wrong with your car" talk which I have come to expect with most mechanics. I will take my car to Golden Gate Auto Repair.

When it comes to honesty and customer satisfaction it's hard to beat this place. The owner is as genuine and friendly as they come. Had two cars repaired here and cost were much more reasonable than bigger shops.

Got in and out! Fast services for my synthetic oil change with no appointment on a Friday morning. And my 'check in' on yelp was granted for $50 synthetic oil change, even tho i didnt get anything else done. Thanks to you matt, keep up the great customer service you provide. And thanks for showing me how to change my oil meter lol

I brought my car in to have the struts replaced and to have a weird noise investigated. I have to say that the people leaving bad reviews must have been rude first. That's the only reason I can think of that Matt would be rude to anyone. He was extremely helpful and thorough. He found the source of the noise, replaced my struts and replaced plastic clips another mechanic broke last year during a tune up(I did not ask him to do this for me) all before I had to pick my kids up from school. Matt is honest and cares about what he does. I was never once made to feel like I should have sent a man in with my car. Matt even walked out to my car with me and explained everything to me to make sure I understood. I will bring my other cars here should they ever need work. I have found my mechanic. Thank you for a job well done.

Great prices non like all the other shops that just want to take your money my car was off the window track to a dodge magnum I was out not even 30 min

Granted I am still driving my college car, but it needs love, too! However, I really balk at repair shops that give me expensive quotes for repair because...it's just a GM vehicle. I tripped across this place because it's literally less than 5 minutes from my house, and I needed my brakes done. The owner was SUPER cool about bringing my car in at a convenient time (which is not that easy because my schedule is a nightmare) and the price was even better; furthermore, I was really impressed with the quality of the work!!! So, just on a whim I mentioned that my speedometer and gas gage weren't working. For reference, the GM dealership quoted a price of at least $1000 to MAYBE fix this--what a joke!!!! NO.WAY. Matt's price was $300 out the door. He had the parts in the shop within a week, and my gas gage and speedometer were working 2h after bringing my car into the shop. Super solid car shop. Any future work on my car will be here.

Got a used Jetta and it needed the timing belt and water pump changed - it was overdue. New in town so didn't know who to take it to but randomly picked this place. Boy am I glad! Matt was really cool to deal with and addressed my check engine light at the same time and ran a smog for free. He even had his guy pick me up at my house so I could pick my car up when it was ready. Service was fast and courteous and he knows his cars. Definitely would recommend to others and I will be taking my other cars here in the future.

I took my Honda here after reading some good Yelp reviews and this place definitely lived up to its Yelp reputation. The first time I took my car there, the front end was shaking like hell whenever I drove over 65 MPH, and the owner (Matt) quickly diagnosed the problem and sent me on my way.



The office was small and messy, but don't let that fool you. Matt is an excellent mechanic, charges reasonable rates, and gives you a breakdown of exactly what they did to your car. There were quite a few cars there and a lot of people called in while I was there, which gave me the impression that this was a popular place to get your car fixed. There's absolutely no hard sell and he doesn't try to gouge you by telling you that you need to have unnecessary work done. In an age of unscrupulous auto repair shops, it's a relief to find places like this.

He does excellent work and even better is that he's a straight shooter. He may tell you things that you may not want to hear but I like that about him. He's an honest guy that charges an honest price for an honest work. I used honest three times in one sentence but that should speak volumes as to the type of guy he is

Matt is the most honest mechanic I have ever seen. He will not over charge or suggest service that is not needed. I will not go anywhere else.

Matt did a great job! I took in my husband's 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser for some maintenance work such as new spark plugs, radiator flush, and drive belt replacement. He quoted me a price of about $255 which is about half the price of other dealers in town! I was a little skeptical because this seemed like way too cheap compared to other quotes I had gotten. This guy is the real deal. Very honest and fair. Not only did he do all the work I asked, he also called me and notified me that one of the pulleys needed replaced and with my permission he replaced it without any labor charge! I would highly recommend him to anyone, good and honest mechanics are hard to come by.

Been going to Matt for the past 2 years. I took my car in today at 830am for some brake work, it was done by 10am because he knew I had to be at work by noon. Efficient and honest mechanic.

Matt has been working in the industry since 1973 and he knows more about cars than anybody I've met. I would highly recommend Matt at Golden gate Auto.
