Overall

After reading all the reviews online about Red Dog Spa, I have to admit, I was hesitant to take my standard poodle, Cooper in to be groomed. I went in and checked it out, and the lady at the register was very friendly and nice, I learned that she was not the owner but a receptionist. She gave me the information and a brochure and I went home to think about it. I made an appointment later after calling around and not finding any other place up to my standards. The groomer was very friendly and knowledgeable, she got down on my dogs level and said she wanted him to trust her. After that, I was sold. I think that any animal lover would agree that a groomer who shows that she loves her job that much is one who can be trusted. My dog is my baby, and I really appreciated the groomers approach. I came back 2 hours later and he was ready. He looked fabulous, and was very happy. He strutted around very proudly, I could see he felt as good as he looked. I will definitely be back soon!

My pom became a Chihuahua...

I brought my Pom in for services including a haircut. We're new to the area and I foolishly assumed that this place would be comparable to other dog spas I had taken him to, and the inside appearance was nicer than preivous spas so it "felt" like a good place. I specified what I wanted: my dog likes being "naked" but I clearly explained that I don't mean shave him hairless, but take his coat down to about the length of some short patches he had. I should have known better when the groomer didn't understand what a "fox cut" is. She asked if I wanted the lion cut for the face, I said no, but trim around his head, not his face, and blend it. She seemed to understand, but when I got my dog back (after paying, mind you, since they conveniently charge you before bringing out your dog) not only was his coat taken almost right to the skin, but she had shaved his whole head! He looked like a chihuahua! She even shaved his ears.... the poor dog couldn't say "no, don't do that" for himself and I felt like a horrible Mommy for believing this dog spa understood my explanation of a fox cut. Granted, I'm probably suffering more than my dog, and it'll grow out and be fine in a couple of weeks, but seriously.... is this their better judgement?

When they brought my dog out it was clear from my face that I was shocked at the results. They said they had hoped I'd be happy leaving... I was far from it.

And not only do I have to deal with what I allowed them to do by trusting them with my dog, I also have to deal with my husband's feedback about the situation... did I mention it cost $60?

He's 3 lbs....and it took them less than an hour.... $60....

And I was told they don't just clip but FILE the nails... so why are his all jagged and sharp like they were cut with scissors?

I've never been so disappointed in a service in my life.... they might be fine for some people, but I think I would have gotten something closer to my instructions if I had just taken him to Petsmart.
