Cervical Cancer
Loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) is a common practice used by gynecologists to remove abnormal cells from a patient’s cervix. Women with these abnormal cells may be at risk for serious conditions such as cervical cancer, making LEEP a very important part of the diagnostic and cancer prevention process. This procedure is performed in-office and local local anesthesia is utilized.

To make an accurate diagnosis and measure your uterine fibroids, Dr. Asulin may order an ultrasound or MRI. He may also take a complete blood count to test for anemia.
MRI
In addition to discussing your symptoms with Dr. Asulin, may suggest another exam to diagnosis endometriosis. During a pelvic exam, he may be able to feel for large cysts or scars behind your uterus. An ultrasound or MRI may also be done to check for ovarian cysts.

Minimally Invasive Surgery
The da Vinci® surgical system gives your surgeon an advanced set of instruments to use in performing robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery. The term “robotic” often misleads people. Robots don’t perform surgery. Your surgeon performs surgery with da Vinci by using instruments that he or she guides via a console.
Robotic Surgery
Dr. Asulin, Director of Female Pelvic Reconstruction and Robotic Surgery at Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, NJ, strives to provide the latest and most advanced treatments for the simplest to the most complex gynecological problems. He utilizes minimally invasive approach whenever possible.
Hysterectomy
Dr. Asulin specializes in minimally invasive hysterectomies to treat a variety of symptoms. Endometrial Ablation
Note: Pregnancy after any form of endometrial ablation is a rare but possible event and the risk of complications is increased. We do not advise having one of these procedures done unless steps to prevent future pregnancies are in place.
Laparoscopy
Risks specific to minimally invasive surgery, including da Vinci Surgery, include but are not limited to, one or more of the following: temporary pain/nerve injury associated with positioning; temporary pain/discomfort from the use of air or gas in the procedure; a longer operation and time under anesthesia and conversion to another surgical technique including laparoscopy or open surgery. If the surgeon needs to convert the surgery to another surgical technique, this could result in a longer operative time, additional time under anesthesia, additional or larger incisions and/or increased complications.
Reconstructive Surgery
1 If none of these options provide adequate symptom relief, your doctor may recommend surgery. There are two types of surgery for pelvic organ prolapse: obliterative surgery and reconstructive surgery.

Laparoscopic Surgery
There are three minimally invasive approaches to uterine fibroid removal. A vaginal (hysteroscopic) myomectomy is performed through the vagina using a long, lighted scope and a fibroid-removal instrument. While vaginal myomectomy requires no incisions, your surgeon will have to determine if the location and size of your fibroids allow for this approach. The other minimally invasive approaches are laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgery (possibly with da Vinci technology). Both are performed through a few small incisions. In laparoscopic surgery, surgeons use special long-handled tools while viewing magnified images from the laparoscope (camera) on a video screen.
