Dr. Patterson, a California native, graduated from UC Davis School of Medicine and went on to complete his residency and fellowship at the renowned UCLA Medical Center. There he became assistant professor in the department of pediatrics and started the first pediatric sports medicine clinic. His training and work with many NCAA Division I teams provided him with knowledge in various aspects of internal medicine and pediatrics that could be applied to the broad field of sports medicine.

Emergency Care
Since graduating, Rebecca has worked both in both primary care and urgent care settings. Her background in primary care paired with additional clinical training in the field of sports medicine has provided a well-rounded and versatile understanding of medicine. Rebecca has been highly trained by Dr. Patterson to deliver exceptional medical care and has the abilities to order and interpret diagnostic tests, perform procedures, diagnose, treat, and prescribe medication.

Our doctors are armed with knowledge in various aspects of internal medicine and pediatrics that can be applied to the broad field of sports medicine.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Our office specializes in various types of procedures including joint aspirations, corticosteroid injections, viscosupplementation injections, platelet rich plasma therapy, and hydrodissection for nerve impingement of the carpal tunnel. Each procedure is performed with ultrasound guidance technology allowing for accuracy in locating the point of injection, thereby maximizing benefits of healing and/or pain relief.

Ultrasound
Ultrasound technology is hugely effective in the visualization, diagnosis, and treatment of several musculoskeletal conditions. One of its advantages includes real-time guidance in which we are able to visualize the needle throughout the entirety of the procedure. Utilizing ultrasound technology assures pinpoint accuracy of the needle into the appropriate tissue or joint space, enabling patients to obtain the maximum benefits of the medication injected.
MRI
A concussion is a complex pathophysiological process affecting the brain, induced by biomechanical forces such as a direct or indirect blow. Concussions can be caused by a blow to the face, neck or elsewhere with transmitted forces to the head. Concussions usually result from a rapid short-lived impairment of neurological function, which resolve spontaneously. The majority (80â€“90%) of concussions resolve in a short (7â€“10 day) period, although the recovery time may be longer in children and adolescents. Although no abnormality is seen on standard structural neuro-imaging studies, a head CT or MRI may be considered if there is prolonged loss of consciousness, an abnormal neurologic exam or ongoing symptoms consistent with an intracranial hemorrhage.

Rebecca was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of California Los Angeles and pursued a masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies at Western University of Health Sciences. In this specialized medical program, Rebecca obtained extensive academic and clinical training. It was in her orthopedics rotation where she was especially intrigued and fascinated by the human body and itâ€™s anatomy.

PCSMâ€™s mission is simple: Developing lasting friendships through excellent care. Since 2003, PCSM has provided complete care to all active persons throughout Southern California. PCSM was founded by Dr. Byron Patterson, a former athlete with a passion for sports medicine and healthy living.
Physical Therapy
You will then check out with the receptionist who will assist you with any coordinating care recommended by the doctor. This may include a physical therapy referral, surgical referral, prescriptions, or additional testing or imaging.
Tennis Elbow
Causes of overuse injuries can range from being under-conditioned, having lack of technique, doing too much too soon, as well as biomechanical issues. Common overuse injuries in children include spondylolysis, and calcaneal, tibial tuberosity, and proximal humerus apophysitis. Common overuse injuries in adults include tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis), golfers elbow (medial epicondylitis), rotator cuff tendonitis, and shoulder impingement.
Manual Therapy
Our physical therapy approach involves a dynamic exercise program combined with manual therapy and other modalities such as electric stimulation (E-stim) and ultrasound. We pride ourselves on giving each patient the time and attention he/she deserves and tailoring a program to the specific needs of the athlete.
