Founded in 1949, Lakeland School is an educational institution that serves more than 270 students between the ages of 3 and 21 with developmental disabilities. It offers classes in reading, writing, math, science, social studies, physical education, art, music, computer applications and language arts. The school provides language, speech, physical and occupational therapy services for students with special needs. It additionally offers special education and peer meet programs for its students. The school operates a parent-teacher council that encourages parental involvement in their children s education. It also organizes several cultural and outdoor activities, such as field trips, high school proms, music concerts, special Olympics, school fest and dance shows.
