Cryotherapy
These lesions are soft, skin-colored, fleshy or horny appearing growths that are caused by infection with a virus known as human papillomavirus (HPV). They can appear anywhere on the skin, oral mucosa or anogenital areas. The virus is contagious from one person to another or from one area to another on the same person, due to direct skin contact. The virus is very common and not everyone will produce warts because the individual’s immune system may counteract the virus. However, warts may recur even after appropriate therapy due to persistaence of HPV. Options for treatment include: occlusion (covering of the wart with tape), over the counter medications (i.e. salicylic acid), cryotherapy or freezing, electrosurgery or prescription medications. Occasionally repeated treatments are necessary. There is now a vaccine given to teen girls and boys to try and prevent infection with certain types of HPV that are significantly linked to cervical cancer.

Botox
Botox® is the trade name of Botulinum Toxin Type A, a purified protein produced by the bacterium Clostridum botulinum. Since the early 1990’s it has been FDA approved for use as a cosmetic treatment for the frown lines. It is also commonly used to non-surgically reduce or temporarily eliminate the appearance of other facial wrinkles. Other areas that are medically and cosmetically treated are around the eyes (crow’s feet), forehead (frown and worry lines), nasal bridge (bunny lines), surrounding the mouth (vertical lip lines) and neck. Botox® works by blocking nerve impulses, thus weakening the muscles of facial expression which are located beneath the immediate surface of the facial skin. Once the resting tone of these muscles are weakened, the muscles relax and the skin flattens out. This treatment option provides an approach to treating the aging face or prolong the changes that time and stress play on the skin’s appearance. Dermal fillers work by filling in a fold or wrinkle, or by contouring areas of volume loss. A botox injection on the other hand physiologically weakens the muscles, removing the wrinkles naturally and giving the skin a rejuvenated look. Botox® may also be used to treat excessive sweating, known as hyperhidrosis. It can help reduce migraine headaches as well.

Eczema
A rash is a noticeable change in the texture or color of your skin. Your skin may become scaly, bumpy, itchy, or otherwise irritated. Also, skin rashes can occur from a variety of factors, including infections, heat, allergens, immune system disorders and medications. One of the most common skin disorders that causes a rash is atopic dermatitis (ay-TOP-ik dur-muh-TI-tis), also known as eczema.
Lesions
These lesions known as “AK’s” or the condition of actinic dermatitis is due to cumulative sun exposure and can become cancerous if left untreated. The lesions can take many shapes. Some appear as patches of rough or scaly skin. They can be skin-colored, reddish-brown, or yellowish-black. Anyone who thinks he or she might have one of these lesions should be evaluated at a dermatologist office. In addition, they should protect themselves from the damaging effects of excessive sun exposure.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are an adjunctive method for treating acne and rosacea, irregularly pigmented, sun-damaged and mature skin. Our experience with the different peeling agents allow us to determine the right one for your skin. Some chemical peels are formulated to treat the uppermost layer of your skin, such as glycolic acid or salicylic acid. These light peels will diminish roughness, improve texture and very fine wrinkles, and help minimize melasma or other hyperpigmentation problems. They are also helpful for removing superficial actinic keratoses which are considered potentially pre-cancerous. Other peels penetrate deeper, such as Jessner’s peels, Vi Peels, or peels using trichloracetic acid, TCA.

Hormones – Androgens can cause acne as well. This is the hormone that increases in boys and girls during puberty, which might explain why teens and pre-teens struggle with acne skin care more often than adults. The androgens cause the glands to enlarge and create more sebum. Pregnant women have been known to struggle with acne caused by hormonal changes as well.

Men and women develop psoriasis at equal rates, and the disease occurs in all racial groups, however at varying rates. Psoriasis is not contagious. It is not something one can “catch” from another person as psoriasis lesions are not infectious.
