Today I had my first and last appointment with Dr. Mackey. When I called to make the appointment, I requested necessary paperwork be mailed or emailed to me to be completed in advance. Dr. Mackey declined my request and suggested I arrive ten minutes early. I arrived early to discover she was not even at the office. She arrived five minutes late without acknowledging her punctuality or providing an apology. Our session began fifteen minutes after our scheduled appointment due to completion of paperwork. During the session, I felt judged and looked down upon. I asked her specific questions pertaining to treatment approaches she purported to utilize (eg., how would you incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy to treat insomnia?) Not only could she not answer any of my questions, but she became defensive and tried changing the topic on several occasions. I work in an outpatient clinic and I cannot imagine treating a patient and not being able to describe or answer basic questions about my recommendations or treatment. If you are looking to pay someone to listen to you, Dr. Mackey’s service will suffice. But if you want to make meaningful changes to create habits that serve immediate and long term goals, I suggest you look elsewhere.
