Dental Examination
Dr. Norton performs periodontal exams as part of routine dental care and provides treatment for gum disease. Using an ultrasonic instrument to vibrate tartar off the teeth and flush out bacteria, he can help protect your longterm oral health. He may also apply antibiotics for more advanced cases.

Oral Cancer Screening
Oral Cancer Screening: Check the neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues and gums for any signs of oral cancer or any abnormal tissue growth that might exist. Dr. Norton uses a special fluorescing device, which takes very little time and is totally painless, to highlight tissue that could be cancerous or pre-cancerous. For adults.

Teeth Cleaning
Ultrasonic teeth cleaning will improve the overall health and appearance of your teeth and gums. It will leave your teeth feeling cleaner than ever. You will find it to be a much more pleasant procedure than you are perhaps accustomed to with previous dental cleanings.
Dental Sealants
Although thorough brushing and flossing removes most food particles and bacteria from easy to reach tooth surfaces, they do not reach the deep grooves on chewing surfaces of teeth. More than 75 percent of dental decay begins in these deep grooves (called pits and fissures). Toothbrush bristles are too large to fit down into and clean most of these areas. This is where sealants play an important role.

Fillings
With this wealth of knowledge, he is familiar with the safest and most effective methods of mercury removal, protecting you from further mercury exposure. Among other proprietary safety measures, we will give you a super activated carbon drink before your treatment. The extra carbon in the drink binds with the mercury molecules to help prevent them from entering into your blood stream. Once Dr. Norton has removed the amalgam fillings, he will replace them with tooth-colored restorations.
Veneers
Veneers are made by creating very thin pieces of durable, tooth-shaped porcelain. In some situations, Dr. Norton is able to do no preparation (sometimes called no-prep) and minimal preparation veneers. (Lumineers® and Emprethins™ are two of the many manufacturer names.) During your consultation with Dr. Norton, he can determine if you are a candidate for these special types of veneers that are custom made for shape and color.
Crowns
Mike came to us with the desire to replace some old crowns on his front teeth that just looked “worn out” to him. Upon examination I found that his gums had receded in several areas, leaving some unsightly areas at the junction of the top of the crown and the root of the tooth. The teeth looked rather lifeless. They didn’t have the life-like translucency that can be achieved with proper utilization of modern materials and techniques available to us today. He was also concerned that several of his lower front teeth were crooked and uneven on the biting surfaces.
Bridges
Our Diagnodent diagnostic laser is one of the greatest advancements in diagnosis of dental decay since the x-ray. This incredible laser can harmlessly and painlessly find very small cavities, possibly years before they would have been found by conventional x-rays. It can frequently find defective areas around old crowns and bridges where decay is getting inside and under the crown. If tooth decay is present, Dr. Norton is alerted to not only the fact there is a cavity but this instrument gives him an indication as to how extensive it may be.
Dental Bonding
Dr. Norton can artfully apply dental composite (white filling material) to teeth, concealing chips, cracks, gaps, and other aesthetic imperfections. We can color-match the bonding material for a natural appearance, so you can achieve beautiful, symmetrical smile.

Root Canal Treatment
I have been going to Dr. Al Norton (Dentistry at Sugarloaf) for many years and I truly could not ask for a better dentist in fact, he’s the best I’ve ever had (as far as I can remember) in my 49 years of life! Dr. Norton and his team make you feel as comfortable as you possibly can while at the dentist, whether getting your teeth cleaned, getting a filling, or having a root canal. Periodontal Surgery
In some cases periodontal surgery may be needed to reduce pocket depths, making teeth and pockets easier to clean. If surgery is needed, Dr. Norton will recommend that you see a Periodontist (a specialist for the gums and supporting bone).
Deep Cleaning
If the disease has progressed to more advanced stages, a special ultrasonic periodontal cleaning (deep cleaning) will be recommended. It is usually done on one side of the mouth (called an upper and a lower quadrant) at a time while the area is numb. In this procedure, tartar, plaque and toxins are removed from above and below the gum line. Ultrasonic periodontal therapy is the first step in the treatment and control of periodontal disease. While reaching below the gum line to remove bacteria, the ultrasonic cleaning instrument also irrigates the area with a medicated rinsing agent. When necessary, we are able to place antibiotic medication beneath the gum line to help eradicate stubborn areas of infection that are resistant to the regular therapeutic procedures. This locally-placed antibiotic attaches to the tooth/gum area and remains for several days. If this is not successful in lessening the periodontal pocket depth to a manageable level, we sometimes use the dental laser to melt away the diseased tissue.This procedure helps gum tissue to heal and pockets to shrink. Medications, special medicated mouth rinses and an electric tooth brush may be recommended to help control infection and healing.

Dentures
Practice good oral hygiene – Brush at least twice a day with an ADA approved toothpaste and toothbrush. Floss daily to remove food debris and plaque from between the teeth and under the gumline. Brush or use a tongue scraper to clean the tongue and reach the back areas. Replace your toothbrush every 2 to 3 months. If you wear dentures (removable bridges), clean them thoroughly and place them back in your mouth in the morning.
Overdentures
Complete Dentures – This type of tooth replacement is used when all of the natural teeth are missing in one or both dental jaw bones (arches). Dentures are removable artificial teeth that are made to closely resemble the patient’s original teeth. Dr. Norton recommends they be anchored by implants (this is called an overdenture ) for better chewing ability.

Dental Implants
Dental implants are the best solution for missing teeth, as they stimulate the jawbone to promote oral health and dental function. These titanium posts replace tooth roots and can support several restorations. We can coordinate your dental implant placement with a local oral surgeon or periodontist.

Bone Grafting
Before receiving dental implants, you will undergo a personalized consultation with Dr. Norton. He will examine your periodontal health to determine whether you may be a good candidate for implants and discuss your aesthetic and restorative goals. Patients with small or weakened jaw bones may require bone grafting to create a stable base for implants.

Orthodontics
Orthodontics: Less visible solutions as an alternative to brackets and wires are making straightening of teeth much more appealing to adult patients. The teeth teeth may be straightened with custom-made, clear, removable aligners from Invisalign® that require no unsightly bands or brackets.
Invisalign Orthodontics
Before receiving Invisalign® treatment, you will undergo a thorough consultation with Dr. Norton. He will evaluate to see if you are a suitable candidate for treatment. He will also estimate the length of time it will take and you will know the cost up front. If you decide to proceed, a set of very accurate impressions will be made of your teeth and some intra and extra-oral pictures will be taken. A prescription will be filled out to explain to Invisalign® how he wants your treatment to be accomplished. A computer at Invisalign® will then generate a set of thin plastic trays that you will wear as treatment progresses.
Braces
Certain tooth or appliance conditions – Bridges that no longer fit properly, crowded teeth, or defective fillings that may trap plaque and bacteria. Conventional braces with bands and brackets can cause problems if not meticulously cared for.
