Dental Examination
New patients receive a comprehensive examination which may include a screening for oral cancer, gum and bone disease, blood pressure, and systemic disorders. A routine oral exam is performed on established patients to determine any changes in dental and health status since the previous visit. An emergency exam is when an oral issue arises, typically pain related, and the dentist needs to determine treatment.
X-rays
Dental x-rays are one of the more comprehensive resources readily available, as they allow dentists to find and diagnose and treat health conditions that cannot be detected during a clinical examination. Early diagnosis is key to comfortable and affordable health care, which Dr. Elliott is committed to providing to every patient.

Teeth Cleaning
For most people, a checkup and cleaning every 6 months is standard protocol. Depending on a person's dental health, however, a dental cleaning every 3 to 4 months may be recommended.
Fluoride Treatment
Dental Sealants
Dental sealants effectively create a protective layer over a tooth's biting surface by sealing off tooth crevices making it impossible for plaque and bacteria to form. Dental sealants also make brushing these teeth much more effective which also keeps the cavities away.

Fillings
Metal fillings are virtually a thing of the past and we have the technology to replace any unattractive metal fillings with natural looking tooth-colored fillings making them almost invisible to the naked eye. These composite fillings are structurally bonded to your teeth making them much less likely to fall out which was a regular problem with silver/amalgam fillings.
Resin Composite

Veneers

Crowns
Baby teeth that have large caries (cavities) and some degree of pain occasionally require that the 'coronal' (top) portion of that tooth's nerve be removed before a filling or a crown (preferably) is placed. The main goal of this procedure is to preserve the baby tooth, since baby teeth help to maintain adequate room for the permanent teeth. Pulpotomies have published success rates that range from 60% to 90% and represent a good and reliable way to save a badly decayed baby tooth.
Bridges

A special threader is used to get the floss under your bridge and can be purchased from most drug stores. Pulpotomy
For primary teeth, SSCs are usually placed on teeth that have extensive caries (where two or more surfaces are extensively involved), or teeth that have pulp treatment (such as pulpotomy or pulpectomy). We also use them in teeth that will remain in the mouth for a considerably long period of time; where other materials will not last long enough.
Root Canal Treatment
At Dickinson Dental we recommend hygiene check-ups at least twice a year to examine and treat teeth before a root canal is needed. Unfortunately, sometimes root canals are unavoidable. Essentially, a root canal involves cleaning out a tooth's root(s), determining the size and length of the roots, and then filling and sealing the each canal.
Apicoectomy
Sometimes the infection persists even after root canal therapy. In these cases, an apicoectomy, or root end resection can be performed to remove diseased tissue.

Deep Cleaning

Dentures
At times, it is necessary for all teeth to be removed due to extensive periodontal disease and/or decay. One of the most used and least expensive options to replacing all of your teeth is a complete upper and/or lower denture. These dentures require support from your gums, palate, and the bone ridge your teeth were once in. Some people find for the best retention adhesive is required. After receiving a new denture from Dickinson Dental, if it is loose it may be due to weight loss, medicines, or not removing it while you sleep.
Overdentures
There are three widely used denture adhesives: powder, paste, and pads. If you are not a fan of adhesives but want the best retention, ask about Overdentures or Ultra Suction. Overdentures do not solely rely on your palate or bone ridge for retention. Instead, implants are placed in the palate bone and small "BB" like attachments connect to the implants. Your denture is made with divots that these attachments fit into giving you amazing retention.

Bone Grafting
Bone grafting is commonly performed by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon to replace or augment bone in areas of tooth loss. Bone grafting to the jaws and facial structures may be necessary in a wide variety of scenarios. The most common bone grafts are facial skeleton and jaw procedures. Other common procedures include tooth extraction site graft, bone graft reconstruction and for a sinus lift. Shrinkage of bone often occurs when a tooth is lost due to trauma, severe caries, or periodontal disease. Additionally, bone loss may have already occurred due to infection or pathology around a tooth. There are many artificial biocompatible bone substitutes available; however, the best material for a bone graft is your own bone, which most likely will come from your chin, the back part of your lower jaw or your hip bone. The hip is considered to be a better source because the hip bone has a lot of marrow, which contains bone-forming cells. There are also synthetic materials that can be used for bone grafting. Most bone grafts use a person's own bone, possibly in combination with other materials.

Braces
For many years when people wanted to straighten their teeth the best option was “traditional” metal braces bonded to their teeth using brackets, wires, and small rubber bands. This allowed dentist to close gaps, rotate and/or pull teeth down into alignment, and correct their biting position. When you hear someone say they are going to the dentist to have their "braces tightened" they usually are just getting a new arch wire or have the position of their rubber bands changed.

Teeth Whitening
LumiBrite Take Home Whitening Gels are only available from your dentist, who will supervise your treatment from initial consultation through completion. The sticky, viscous gel won't migrate to gums and most formulations include Potassium Fluoride (PF), which helps to improve oral health by strengthening enamel, decreasing sensitivity and offering increased cavity prevention.Take home whitening includes upper and lower arch trays and several whitening gel tubes. A drop of the gel is placed in each tooth cavity of the tray and worn for as little as 5 minutes a day for 2 weeks. The trays are custom fit for your mouth and the gel comes in many different strengths and flavors. If you are experiencing sensitivity due to the gel, you may need to change the strength, flavor or use desensitizing toothpaste before wearing the trays.
