I must say that I cannot recommend a restaurant whose employees lack professional courtesy while dining elsewhere, waiters are dishonest and unaware, and whose food is so stunningly mediocre if that.
I must first explain that I had the incredible misfortune of sitting next to a man who either worked for, or owned Landry's, while I was TRYING to enjoy my birthday dinner at my favorite restaurant. He asked his waiter to tell him about the specials, so the waiter did, then he asked for their honest opinion. The waiter admitted that one of them was delicious, but she had never tried the second. So he asked for her experience in selling it, reminding her to remain completely honest. She explained to him, that most people who ordered it were unhappy with it, and returned the dish. Then he asked her why some items were removed from the menu, and she explained that the company had taken them off and as best as she could figure, it was because they were not being sold enough or perhaps people did not enjoy them. He went completely off on her, saying that she was too honest about the food and the service was terrible. I had the same waiter, and she was wonderful. I particularly enjoyed her honesty about the menu items because that way I don't waste my time or money.
Well, this man went on and on about how at his restaurant --Landry's Seafood House the waiters would never be so unprofessional. So of course, being that I work in the West End, I had to try it.
I came in with a friend for dinner a few nights later and found myself immediately annoyed by how un-welcomed we seemed to be and how long we seemed to be ignored for. When we asked for recommendations our waiter seemed to have no clue, saying that EVERYTHING on the menu was wonderful, and when asked specifics, he did not know what exactly was in them. Then, the food came out wrong, and once the right food came out, the waiter ignored us and did not refill the drinks, so eventually we had to ask. The food was no better than the service--lacking taste and presentation.
I'm not even sure it was worth the full star that I gave it.
