Ultrasound
During your first visit to the office you will be seen and evaluated by Dr. Whiddon. If indicated, an ultrasound examination will be performed. The combination of the history of the clinical problem, the physician’s examination, the ultrasound study findings, and the visualization of veins beneath the skin surface using augmented reality with the VeinViewer will provide a complete assessment of your vein problem. Dr. Whiddon will explain the findings and their significance to you and offer recommendations for treatment if needed. The alternatives and the risks of any procedure will be explained as well. Questions will be answered.

General Surgery
Dallas Vein Specialists, earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed his surgical internship and general surgery residency at Parlkand Memorial Hospital and affiliated hospitals of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Whiddon then served two years as a general surgeon in the United States Air Force. Following his military tour of duty he completed a residency in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery at New York University Hospital, New York City.
Wound Care
Venous ulcers are caused by changes at the microcirculatory, capillary, and cellular levels. The venous high pressure caused by the gravity induced abnormal backward flow in the leg veins causes an inflammatory reaction which in turn damages the tissues of the skin in the most dependent areas, the lower leg, ankle, and foot. With minor trauma, maybe no more than an abrasion from scratching, a non-healing sore develops. Over time the small wound may become much larger and deeper. These ulcers are painful, messy, and difficult to heal using usual wound care measures. Good compression hose, elevation, and intensive wound care may be successful in achieving healing, but frequently the ulcer recurs, especially if the patient omits the compression.

Lesions
Dallas Vein Specialists now has the Dye-VL Pro module device, a high-power phototherapy module for non-invasive treatment of vascular and pigmented lesions of the skin. The Dye-VL allows the treatment of vascular lesions of a wide variety including telangiectasia (spider veins) and rosacea of the face and upper body including the neck and chest areas with astonishingly good results. This technology is a major improvement over the usual intense pulse light (IPL) treatment. The Dye-VL Pro module selectively targets the oxyhemoglobin and deoxyhemoglobin and melanin, and thus targets blood vessels containing blood and dark pigmented skin lesions. It has also shown excellent results when applied to port wine stains, age spots, and other dark pigmented lesions of the skin. Another advantage of the Dye-VL is its ability to treat larger areas in shorter sessions than the VeinGogh, which targets one vessel at a time.
