Overall
Too expensive, food not good

I had gone to this restaurant about 3 years ago and the food was okay but I found it to be expensive for what they served. I ordered pork chops, thinking there would be 2 as described in the menu, but only received one and it was very small. My friend ordered a steak and it was overcooked and dry. We tried a few months later and I ordered a half of a roasted chicken and it was not cooked completely so needless to say, I couldn't eat it. I complained but the cook insisted that it was cooked properly. Most recently - last summer, we went back and the air conditioner was not on and it was way too hot in there so we couldn't even order food. Who wants to eat hot food in a 90 degree restaurant - and the fan wasn't working either. We left and went someplace else to eat. It seems that the restaurant is going downhill. I went a few weeks ago and no one was in the dining room and only a few people were at the bar and it was a Friday night at 6:30 PM. Maybe the drinks are good but I don't drink hard liquor so I wouldn't know.

Overall
New to Mex food

I'm shocked to read these other posted comments, I've been recently introduced to Mexican dining and I have had nothing but great experiences in the many times now that I've dined at Tenampa. The food is delicious and the service is great! I can't imagine someone not having a good experience while dining there, it's a nice family oriented environment and my children love the attention they receive! Always a preasure!

General Info
El Tenampa was originally founded by Juan Hernandez, from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, and then in 1952 he and his wife moved to Mexico City. From then on El Tenampa was famous for having the most popular Mariachi bands play and become "murals" on the walls of the restaurant. The first mariachi to play in Mexico City's famous "Plaza Garibaldi" was also the first Mariachi who played at El Tenampa. El Tenampa continues to have murals on its walls of Mexico's fine music history from 1925 to the present.
