Tommy's Moving & Storage

My expensive furniture now looks secondhand! I am heartbroken.

I used Toms Moving five years ago to move a bunch of stuff to storage. They scratched my antique, heirloom table, and they sent someone to "fix" it- take it away for a few months and sand it down, but it never looked the same! Well, This past Monday, I used Tom's again for a smaller move. I noticed a lot of pieces in my storage that they had damaged on their previous move. Chipped or scratched wood. A chair was chipped so badly I just had to throw it in the donation heap.

And the movers on Monday completely scratched up my $4000 Entertainment Center. The "head" guy put a six inch scratch in the wood and several deep gashes in the front frame so that it now looks like a second hand piece! I am devastated! Also, the back corners are completely chipped away because they were too lazy to pick up the piece properly to move it.

The entire move was unprofessional. I had to stay on top of them like their mother. Telling them to get off their cell phones, telling them not to drag my finished furniture along the floor, telling them not to toss their open Exacto knives on my marble floor, telling them to put a blanket under the finished wood piece that was laying on its side on their splintered, rough wood van floor.

Then they wanted to charge me for the half hour they arrived late, their half hour lunch break (all three of them just disappeared for half an hour at lunch time without telling me and then denied it!) and their fifteen minute gas station stop, and the two hours one of them was on his cell phone on my balcony! Of course their is no disputing them. I ended up getting in a shouting match with the receptionist and was an hour late picking up my daughter from school. At $85 an hour plus an hour built in driving time, I did care about the wasted time but not nearly as much as I cared abut the ruined furniture!!!!

And on top of it all -- a critical shelf of the entertainment center is missing. It probably fell out in their van and they didn't bother to give it to me -- either on their first or second move.

Honestly, I will NEVER use Toms again! Next time I will go with a reputable National company. Live and Learn. If you care about your furniture at all DO NOT USE TOMS!
