Overall
You'd be better off taking you...

You'd be better off taking your dog to the pound for a few days than leaving it here. The owner, Laura, want's nothing more than to take your money. She is the best kind of thief, the kind that makes you give her the money willingly rather than stealing it. She'll make you feel like the only person who matters and then forgets your name and all about your pet the moment you are out of sight. On busy holidays she consolidates pets from different families in rooms to make more room and more money. Dogs leave with mysterious wounds and the owners are given stories about how their pet hurt themselves, not told that their unfamiliar roommate attacked them because they were in a room that was too small with a dog they didn't know. If your dog has ever stayed here and left with a wound it is unlikely to have been from the reason you were told. The head staff is unconcerned as they are promoted based on their close relationships with Laura's family and not on their merit. If you have ever left without the food, medication, toys, bedding you sent in, it's because they misplaced it or gave it to some other dog or simply decided they wanted it and took it. Some of the staff is good but they are so afraid of the owner's retribution that they follow any and all orders, even if they aren't exactly honest or moral. I have seen medication stolen by Laura's pill popping son, bedding stolen by his greedy girlfriend and bold faced lies told by Laura herself. Medications get skipped all the time, the wrong food given due to neglegence. Your pets are treated as the means to an end. That end is more money, plain and simple. How do I know this? I used to work there myself. You may call me a "disgruntled employee" if you wish, but I felt it was time to be honest about the things I was asked to do while employed there. I am still ashamed of the lies I told to customers who were nothing but nice to me and pets that deserved better care than they received. I started working there to make a positive difference in the lives of pets and their people but I eventually quit when I could no longer stand to look at myself in the mirror, knowing I was going to work to lie to people. My job was to make room for more pets/money no matter what it took. Crates, roommates, lies, danger, whatever I was told. I believed the lies myself at first, but it doesn't take long to realize that it's all just a facade designed to make her bottom line bigger. PLEASE, PLEASE don't be fooled by the charm and charisma you are being sold. What you see is not what you get. I am sorry to all the pets who were hurt or neglected and the owners I lied to about it. Please feel free to post a question if you have any concerns or past questions you want answered and I will do my best to tell you the truth about what really happened to your pet.

Fantastic, Friendly daycare, grooming and boarding

It’s not hyperbole to say that I can’t imagine a better place to take my four footed family members for boarding, grooming, or daycare than Wescott Acres. I have taken my dog to multiple other daycares and groomers and have not found the care, attention to detail, or company-wide organization that Wescott Acres has anywhere else.

My Silky Terrier, Cujo, started attending Doggie Daycare in July 2009. All of his health history and pertinent information are saved in Wescott Acres’ computer systems and reviewed by every employee. This is very important to me since at another doggie daycare in South Carolina, Cujo was fed treats after I had specifically told the daycare to not feed him treats. The treats were made with peanut butter that had e.coli in it and Cujo spent weeks on antibiotics to recover from the horrible effects of his infection. This cost me hundreds of dollars in veterinary care that the doggie daycare did not reimburse in any way. Every day Cujo was greeted by the same core team of staff members who I know are just as invested as I am in his health and happiness. Beginning in March of 2010 we started taking our second dog, a large German Shepherd/ Husky mix, to doggie daycare. She was treated with the same amount of care as Cujo. In the summer, the staff made sure that she always had cold water and was comfortable. This is something that is hard to do and shows how kind and dedicated the Wescott Acres staff is. The socialization and attention that my dogs got at Wescott Acres was irreplaceable.

I have referred several people to Wescott Acres and after they have kept their cat or dog their once, they never go anywhere else. My friends and family are always impressed with the service and attention they and their pets get at Wescott Acres.

Most impressive is the attention that the staff showed to my cat, Odin. In October 2010 I found out that Odin had an abscessed liver and would need special food, antibiotics, and nearly constant monitoring for several weeks. I had a weeklong vacation scheduled for the week after his diagnosis and considered cancelling my travel plans until Wescott Acres agreed to take in Odin. I trusted Wescott Acres over my friends and family to take care of my dear cat. The team went above and beyond the already stringent procedures that had to be followed with Odin. One of the staff members created a chart to track Odin’s medicine, food and water consumption, and bathroom use. This was invaluable when I took him to the vet after my vacation.

Overall
Poor Service

Poor service, the owner is very attentive when you are at her facility but when you call when a concern she will not return calls. The facility is dirty, and my pet contracted a form of kennel cough from Wescott acres. Laura would not even talk to me, she didn't even find out her facility was making dogs sick. Very Reckless, she is not a member of the American Boarding Kennels Association as she claims on her website.

It hurts to hear someone upset about their pet's staying at Wescott Acres. I am a 32 year veteran in pet care, and involved with all our pets. Most of our staff have been here for years because they also love taking care of dogs and cats. We all care a great deal about every baby staying with us. Our goal is to have a healthy, caring, home-away-from-home environment for every pet. This writer's pet caught a cold after going home. No other pets had any form of illness during or after this pet's stay. The owner feels this baby got a cold because we are unclean. We clean twice a day, give each pet two daily playtimes outside, and lots of personal attention. We invite and encourage visitors to take a tour of our pet resort anytime. Wescott Acres Luxury Pet Resort is going into our 9th year offering Boarding, Doggie Day Camp and Grooming to the Columbia area. We hope to share with this writer that we are genuinely interested in every baby that stays with us. We only want to provide the best care for their pet. And, we are proud members of The Pet Care Services Association, formerly The American Boarding Kennel Association.
