Primary Care

Emergency Care
Prior to opening his practice in Sports Medicine, Dr. Masri worked in the Emergency Room at Hackensack University Medical Center, where he still holds medical staff privileges. Dr. Masri has committed himself to the philosophy that a sound mind and body are quintessential to success in the athletic arena. Internal Medicine
In 2003, he received his Internal Medicine degree at UMDNJ in Newark, NJ. Following his residency, he was accepted into a very competitive fellowship program in Primary Care Sports Medicine at Jersey Shore Medical Center where he was able to learn from one of the founding fathers of this new and growing field of Medicine. He also worked as an assistant to the Rutgers University team physician and was on the sidelines of some exciting football games, including the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida. He has covered numerous special events including the NCAA men’s Basketball Tournament, Big East Track and Field Finals, US Masters Swim Meet and the NYC Marathon. He has also worked as a sports physician covering the Olympic Developmental Soccer Program for New Jersey’s finest young soccer athletes.

Ultrasound
In his quest to keep patients out of surgery, Masri emphasizes that an early and accurate diagnosis is key. He uses musculoskeletal ultrasound to dynamically view and diagnose the cause of tendon, ligament, muscle and joint pain, and uses EMG and NCV testing to measure electrical activity within the muscles. “With these tools, we can identify the exact location and extent of the injury,” he notes.
MRI
High resolution images show soft tissues and bone surfaces better than X-rays and tendon structure better than MRI.
X-Rays
Computed Tomography
It is completely safe; there is no radiation involved as in CT scans and X-rays and no magnetic field as in MRI. It is safe to use for pregnant patients and those with cardiac pacemakers or metal implants.

Orthopedics
In orthopedics, ultrasound is an excellent tool for diagnosing the cause of tendon, ligament, muscle, and joint pain. It can also be used to help guide an injection into the site of pain. It is completely noninvasive, painless, and safe. At Masri Sports Medicine & Wellness, Dr. Sammy Masri has received specialized training in the use of ultrasound both to diagnose orthopedic injuries and to guide the placement of therapeutic injections.
