Dental Examination
We perform a thorough periodontal screening at the initial visit. We take and study digital x-rays. We make a diagnosis of the type of gum condition that exists in each patient. We measure the depth of the gum collar, the recession (pulling away of gum from tooth), looseness, and heavy wear and grinding patterns. We take special note of depths of 4mm or greater (known as pockets) and bleeding points.
X-rays
Dental x-rays exams are valuable as they provide information about your oral health such as early stage cavities, gum diseases, abscesses or some types of tumors. This is a wonderful diagnostic aid in dentistry as many oral diseases can’t be detected with a visual and tactile exam alone. While it is valuable tool in the dental office, our office believes in taking only those x-rays which are necessary to make a proper diagnosis.
Oral Cancer Screening
Visits to the Dentist include more than just “checking teeth”. While those patients who wear dentures no longer have to worry about dental decay, they may have concerns with ill-fitting appliances or mouth sores to name a few. Annual visits to the Dentist (or sooner if soreness is present) is recommended. During these visits an oral cancer screening and head and neck exam will be performed as well as an evaluation of the fit or need for reline or replacement of the existing appliances. Regular visits can help you to avoid more complicated problems down the road even with a denture.

Teeth Cleaning
Fluoride Treatment
Professional strength in-office fluorides make teeth stronger... and even mineralizes weakened areas. However over time, the high level of fluoride provided by the in-office fluoride treatment will gradually be released from the teeth.

Fillings
Resin Composite
In the “back teeth” Composite Resins have come to be the standard of care where dental “fillings” are concerned. We know most patients prefer a more natural, whiter material for these restorations. In the past 25 years composites have improved greatly, progressing from a once “less dense” material to a very strong filling which is now more visible on dental x-rays.
Gold Restorations
Gold restorations have stood the test in dentistry since ancient times. Rarely is an allergy to gold reported in the literature. When the patient’s bite is a concern (e.g., a grinding habit), gold is the material of choice for the chewing surface of a crown. Both white and yellow gold can be used in crowns. Due to the high cost of materials, these restorations are not as commonly used but are definitely available to our patients.
Veneers
Porcelain Veneers are a conservative (minimal tooth preparation) means of achieving a highly cosmetic permanent result. Typically used on the “front” teeth, these thin custom facings are constructed to adhere to the enamel surface to create an ideal esthetic look. They can close gaps, widen and/or elongate teeth, and improve the tooth color dramatically.
Crowns
Lasers have been used in dentistry since the 1990’s. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has determined that lasers provide safe and effective treatment of a wide range of applications. Lasers may be utilized in daily patient care for various types of periodontal therapy, removal of tooth decay and cavity preparation, and soft tissue applications like tissue re-contouring, crown and bridge procedures, some endodontic procedures, uncovering partially erupted teeth, release of a tongue tie, treating aphthous ulcers, canker sores and lesions associated with the herpes virus, and also to perform biopsy techniques. Lasers usually allow for bloodless surgical procedures and may destroy bacteria during tissue removal. For many patients lasers may reduce postoperative pain, swelling and the need for numerous postoperative appointments.
Bridges
Porcelain fused to metal crowns have historically been the material of choice for crowns and bridges. These are very esthetic as the porcelain is a very life-like glossy material known for its extreme hardness. The porcelain is baked to a metal substructure (which contains gold or a similar noble metal). A series of connected crowns (which replace one or more missing teeth) is known as a bridge.
Dental Bonding
Restorative Dentistry
Our office performs root canal therapy, however, we often refer the patient to an endodontist (specialist) when the need arises. The final restorative dentistry is always done by Dr Medvesky.

Root Canal Treatment
Bleeding increases the chance that the restoration might need to be redone, and invites post-operative sensitivity, as well recurrent decay and gum disease. It could even result in the need for a root canal.

Dentures
Esthetics, comfort, and function (chewing and speaking) are all important areas of recreating the patient’s smile with a Complete Denture.

Dental Implants
Similar to natural teeth, implants require daily maintenance. Although they are not subject to decay, they still are vulnerable to periodontal breakdown if the patient does not adhere to a strict routine of home oral hygiene. Annual x-rays and six month intervals between hygiene visits are highly recommended.

Orthodontics
Straight teeth allow for more ease of cleaning, flossing, and thereby improve the periodontal status of the patient. We strongly encourage our patients to consider orthodontics especially if they have a potential periodontal concern due to crowding.
Invisalign Orthodontics
Adults account for one in every five orthodontic patients. They want to achieve a healthy looking smile, balanced, straight and ultimately whiter teeth. Esthetics, the convenience of flossing, and the element of time all enter in to the choice of clear orthodontic aligners. Not every prospective orthodontic patient is a candidate for this type of treatment. However, we offer a Complimentary Invisalign Screening for those who want to explore this option and learn more about the process.
Braces
Our office proudly offers Invisalign clear orthodontic “braces.” Typically we treat adults who are interested in correcting crowded or “crooked” front teeth in a less conspicuous way. Many of these patients wore braces as teenagers, and eventually quit wearing their retainers. This results in relapse which may be corrected in later years by wearing Invisalign aligners.

Teeth Whitening
Follow your dentist’s instructions on how to load gel into your custom-bleaching tray. Use no more than 1/3 to 1/2 of a syringe per tray.
General Dentistry
In 1985 Dr. Carole settled in Clearwater to practice dentistry and adopted the mission statement to provide Gentle Personal Care to all her patients. She moved to her present location in May 1988. Her love of the profession is evident in her work, her relationship with patients, and the desire to continuously learn and improve. As early as 1986 she was recognized by the Florida Academy of General Dentistry for surpassing the required hours of continuing education well above the required amount. Dr. Medvesky has maintained active membership status since 1985 in American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, West Coast Dental Association, Upper Pinellas Dental Association, and since 2013, the Academy of Laser Dentistry. She also volunteers her services at Gulf Coast Dental Outreach in Tampa and Community Dental Clinic in Clearwater, both facilities dedicated to the care of the indigent.
