General Info
Doughty's Furniture was founded by Harry Doughty in 1946. The business began across the street from its present location on Delsea Drive in downtown Clayton, Gloucester County, NJ selling home goods such as carpets, appliances, radios and ( new technology! ) TVs! Over the years several family members worked in the business, and eventually we became focused on specializing in furniture and mattresses. After Harry's passing in 1987, the business carried on under the leadership of Harry's son-in-law Jim and his two daughters Nina and Carole. Today, thanks to the support of our loyal customers, Doughty's Furniture is now operated by Harry's grandson, Greg, the 3rd generation of the Doughty family. We abide by the ethical and professional standards set by the Better Business Bureau and the National Home Furnishings Association. We are long-time members of both organizations. We offer quick delivery on in-stock merchandise and also the choice of custom orders in several categories. We are well known for our low pressure, casual shopping experience. Come in and see for yourself! We believe you'll discover that Doughty's is quite a find!

Overall

My wife and I are very dissatisfied with Doughty's Furniture! We ordered a living room set and bedroom set on January 20, 2014. These sets consisted of the following: two dressers, bed frame and headboard, split king size mattresses, reclining sofa, reclining love seat, and a reclining chair. On April 7, 2014, the following items arrived at our home: two dressers in DAMAGED condition, bed frame and headboard, split king size mattresses, reclining sofa in DAMAGED condition, reclining love seat in DAMAGED condition, and a reclining chair in DAMAGED condition. The bedroom set was discontinued so we had no alternative but to allow the dressers to be reconditioned. However, when I inquired, Doughty's Furniture refused to offered any reimbursement for receiving reconditioned dressers. Doughty's Furniture attempted deliveries on June 23, 2014, October 20, 2014 and December 08, 2014. At no time, was an undamaged reclining sofa delivered to our address. Nancy, at Customer Service, told me today that because we previously refused to accept a reconditioned living room set and because of their cost for the attempts, that Doughty Furniture will no longer attempt to deliver a new living room set, as ordered and paid for. Furthermore, when I advised Nancy that I discarded my old living room set because Nancy and the store manager promised to make us happy, she replied that it was not Doughty's Furniture's problem. Furthermore, Nancy stated that Doughty's Furniture will not offer any compensation for the inconveniences caused by the several failed delivery attempts.

I believe that a reasonable person would agree with the following statement. Damages caused during shipping and/or while in possession of the retailer, should not have any adverse effect to the customer during the transaction. However, Doughty's Furniture has attempted to intimidate us in accepting reconditioned products from the first failed delivery attempt on April 07, 2014. Furthermore, a professional company would attempt to identify the possible causes of a continuous problem in order to minimize its re-occurrence. However, when I requested a supervisor to be present for this reason at the time of delivery, the store manager refused. As a result of a purchase made on January 20, 2014 and Doughty's Furniture's lack of professionalism, my wife and I will be spending the New Years holidays with no living room furniture.
